Just a couple of quick questions about an 8 year old Ecotec Plus 831 combi (R1). Will this boiler have the bleed program function? I don't have the manual, but looked in one online and couldn't see it listed in the contents or on the filling page.

If this boiler does have a bleed program, should it be used every time it is refilled after drain down, or just if there is a problem with air in system after refilling?

Many thanks for any advice.

Yes.

Yes; it's a good idea. Although you will still need to bleed the radiators fully, it will take excess air from the system via the auto air-vent in the boiler by pulsing the circulation pump. I fully bleed, then run the purge program, then bleed again and re-pressurise to 1.3.

Thanks for your reply. I think there's also a filling test program that does something with the diverter valve during filling. Do you know what 'P' number this is, and is it a good idea to run this too?

Well, I tried to get the 'P' menu up today, but no luck. I tried turning boiler off then on and holding '+' button down for 5 secs, but 'P0' didn't appear as it should do.

Do you need to hold the '+' button for exactly 5 secs, or minimum of 5 secs?

Am I imagining it or is it under installer/engineer level?

I assumed if the op was GSR Then they could call Vaillant and get the information if they didn't already know it

Thanks to those who have replied with advice.

Also, I realise we live in a health and safety obsessed age, but do you now have to be GSR to press buttons on a boiler to purge it of air? Anyone would think I was after swapping the heat exchanger.

You clearly haven't read the forum rules. Had the question or advice gone into the realms where you need to be gsr this thread would have been closed.

Please don't get snarky. It won't end well.

I think you'll find mate that what we are saying is that you still require a degree of understanding of how the boiler works etc. In some of these installer menus you can make changes to to the boiler "brain" which can affect things such as combustion, range rating etc we're not being harsh just trying to stop a boiler being wrongly set up or tampered with after install by over enthusiastic diyers.
