Hi all,
i have a vaillant ecotec Plus boiler in my garage, now with the cold weather the frost protection is working, but i dont want it too, cant afford it,with temps of 5 and below the damn heating is running all day and night even tho the room temp is 19c what it should be and NOT requiring the system to run as the room is warm enough, now i know its the water temp its seeing as low (or is it air temp ?) but how can i turn this feature off, i cant afford the gas bill and the house is hot all day when no-one is in,i can understand the feature but only if it did it say, once every 6 hrs but its firing up every 10 mins or so etc
what if i put some loft insualtion around underneath it where the lid is etc to keep the boiler itself warm, or is it merely measuring the water temp, which will be cold for the next 4 mths or so !!!!!

any ideas

cheers

must be faulty, even when frost stat kicks in its not on long ,is there any F numbers,on digital screen,if not press:! button ,to status of boiler, they are a good bit of kit

hi,theres no error codes, just the s34 i think it is for frost stat

the frost stat is a honeywell one with a another piece of kit attached to the pipe (to measure the temp i guess

this

with

Honeywell L641B1004 Low Limit Pipe Thermostat

it has an external dial reading from 40 to 0,its currently set to 0 but i want it set lower as i think its this causing the heating to come on,but the weird thing is,once its heated the water up, it continues to do so,as the pipe this is attached to is hot and stays hot for a while so why keep on gassing up and heating the system when this pipe hasnt dropped below the 0 as its still warm from when the boiler heated the system

maybe its faulty ?????

you should not have a frost thermostat fitted outside as this senses air temp and will stay on all the time,a pipe thermostat should be fitted this will turn boiler on for a short while just to warm pipework, belive Vailiant ecotec has built in frost protection anyway(but double check) so extenal controls shouls not berequired ,maybe left over from previos boiler
Make sure all pipwwork is lagged well and maybe built insulated cupboard around boiler

cheers for reply, the install was done this yr so all new kit,we had an older vaillant before this, one with a titanium element.

The write up for the gadget i have says its a contact thermostat so i dont think it measures the air temp, more what it touches ????

i have found how to adjust the frost stat,i remove the cover to this

and found the dial underneath,it was set at 5 degrees with 2 lower increments i guess 3 degrees and it went a little further so im guessing its at about 1 or 2 degrees now, although i dont know what to understand as it has a stat on the pipe and te stat i just lowered,so maybe the one on the wall reads the air temp and then reads the setting from the pipe one ??????

but as you say,if the boiler has a built in frost stat maybe the wall froststat, this

then triggers the built in frost stat and the pipe stat is irrelevant ? but then it does fire the boiler up if i turn it upto say 40 if the boilers off

If its not meant to have this honeywell froststat then im baffled ????? as its all wired into the wireless honeywell internal programmer, this one

Honeywell CM921 Programmable 24 Hour Digital Wireless Room Thermostat CMT921A1042 Plumbing Heating And Drainage Room Thermostats

im wondering if this can be done

"OFF position with frost protection setting at minimum 5 Deg C (installer adjustable) so that pipes in the house should never freeze in winter."
re edit, it can be adjusted but only above 5 degrees to max of 21

hi,i dont doubt anyone on here but i need to get this right.

is this an air thermostat ?

http://www-3.plumbworld.co.uk/honeywell-t4360a-frost-761-1360l.jpg

i thought this was the pipe thermostat (what i have fitted also on the C.H outlet pipe)

http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/honeywell-l641b1004-low-limit-pipe-thermostat/L641.JPG

So,the boiler does have a built in frost protection, well,it says this in the manual, but is the same temp settings, when it gets 5 degress or below it does what it should do upto 30 degrees and maintains this temp( i dont know if this is meant to heat the whole house or just the boiler ?? )

so,why would the honeywell system be isntalled if it is built into the vaillant ?

still doesnt hel the fact its happening,be it the boiler or the honeywell system activating it,5 degrees isnt that cold and its making the heating be on all day/night

puddle is correct, frost stats fitted inside, however you might be confusing the outdoor sensor with this !?
outside temperature sensor and frost stats have different part numbers. whip the cover off, dont touch anything but take a note of the number on the small pcb board and check!

Hi,its not the warmstart system,i turned that off, that relates to the hot water only not the C.H

RE The sensors, its 100% a frost stat thats outside right next to the boiler (situated in the garage)

when you say i could be confusing the outside sensor with this, what do you mean ?

i have the boiler, next to it the honeywell wireless receiver and wired into this is the frost stat and the pipe thermometer

so are we saying the electrician/fitter souldnt of wired in this frost stat as the boiler is outside ????

If thats the case i shall get onto the fitter/warranty company as its only been fitted 8 mths but its one thing calling them another getting someone out december with a "mild" issue

Heres a pic

well, ive been on the phone to the warranty people and have told them i think its the frost stat issue, otherwise i would be on the phone for an hour with there is it plugged in/on is there a light etc etc so i thought id suggestthe fault.

i was then told a technician would call me back

they did today but i missed the call and i called back and the tech team have gone,so i explained to the girl again and i get not much back, cant expect it,she`s just a call logger etc,but i keep getting told the frost stat must be in place as its to stop the system freezing, now i agree with the guys on here having a thermometer outside isnt the best idea as it will be 2 degrees or below for many mths now which means my heating will be on all the time

awaiting another call but not expecting much, they keep saying the frost stat should be there, await the techi to agree/disagree and go from there

wish me luck
