Gentlemen good afternoon

Bit of an awkward one. Last year my nan had a new boiler fitted and system converted to sealed. Now for the last few months my grandad has had to top boiler up on a daily basis.

His local plumber is a bit of a cowboy and is trying to charge them a lot of money to change their cylinder (reckons the coil has split). I have said I will go up next weekend and change it if this is the case rather than them pay a lot of money. Trouble is they are in Kent and I am in Bournemouth. I want to be sure it is definatly the cylinder that needs doing and it's hard to talk my grandad through the possibilities on the phone.

He he has inspected all pipework for leaks. Checked expansion vessel etc all fine. He is convinced coil is split.

However if if this is the case I would expect the CWSC to overflow as the water builds up. Also I would expect hot water to be discoloured. He says he hasn't noticed any of this.

Not sure what Vailliant it is but am waiting to find out. It keeps going to f23, which is flow and return differential temps.

Does anyone one have any idea what else the problem could be or is it most likely the coil?

sorry for being vague but without looking at it in person it's hard to find the problem.

Cheers

The baisic are to check the pressure... Is it rising to 3 bar etc & then kicking out of the prv... Did your grandad check the expansion correctly... Vaillant always have a flat expansion tank!! Check the prv pipe is dry & not dripping, otherwise it could be a split coil?

Yeah he's got an external vessel which has been checked. Have asked him this afternoon to check prv aswell. No banging noises or anything but then the boiler is in loft so who knows.

The hot water has been getting really hot aswell so I suppose this is evidence of the coil aswell. Just wanted to cover all bases so I can get up there early next sat and sort.

Cheers Gassafe

Bump Bump! Wonder if anyone can help. Changed cylinder yest. Pressure has dropped over night! Have this morning inspected all pipework under suspended floor. All sound no leaks. Checked expansion vessel. Its not discharging. I am stumped...

Has anyone got any suggestions as i have got to head home in a couple of hours and want to get it sorted for them!!

Thanks in advance

Leaking hex into condensate drain... Long shot

Gotta be leaking under the floor where it can't be seen to be losing that much water

Going to check that now. Yeah the amount its dropped would expect to see it physically dripping from a joint somewhere but it just isnt...

Defs not going over 3 bar & dumping when in heating mode...

Can you cut 2 lever valves into where the flow & return disappear under the floor, only way to isolate & prove its below the floor really...

Checked condensate is fine. Its been on heating mode for last 2 hours and sat on 1.8 bar. The only thing am hoping is air couldve found its way out vents overnight from where i refilled...

A little pressure would might have dropped, depends how much, if it was on zero then I'd say there's a leak still... I suppose you could test the coil on the old tank

Thanks for all your help mate im stumped with it. Seens to be holding so going to leave it for a few days and see what happens

If it's been drained, they can drop over night and then be fine.
Off the cylinder was knackered the overflow would have been running on the hwsc over night.
Stick some Fernox leak sealer in it, it's great stuff.
