Vaillant VUW 242 Turbomax Timer not working

I have a Vaillant VUW 242 Turbomax boiler with a timer, but when the clock is switched to timer position it does nothing. The boiler just runs continuously.

Not sure what to check

In all honesty if you haven't got a clue what to check and not got a electrical tester it's best for you to get someone in.
