Hi All,

I'm a student in my final year of a product design degree, for my final project I am designing a product/products that will help with tool security, looking specifically at the needs of trades people when going about their work and trying to provide security with minimal hassle/disruption.

I'm looking to talk to anyone about experiences they may have had with the theft of work tools or work vans etc.

Cheers,

Josh.

If you was to come and rob my van, my dogs can hear a man tiptoeing up the culdasack, try and get to the van, you got my dogs on you pig. I also am up light a shot. By the way i live in a culdasack in a detached house in the poshest place in my area, which counts foe F all when it comes to burglary. It actually encourages it more money mor problems he he.

I hardly ever lock my van.

Was thinking earlier when I saw this thread that not locking the van could be a good deterent as it means you might be coming back any second!!

Instead of knocking this idea though, perhaps some sort of heavy locking toolcase which can be bolted to the van (a bit like a house safe bolted through it's floor) might be worth a thought or might inspire a thought. Hope the studies go well and a profitable idea/product appears!

Yes that sounds like a good idea, you could call it a van Vault.

1 van made of steel,1x 2.5mm cable connected to the roof rack and powered up,=dead scumbag torries would love it one less waste of food to pay benefits to you could call it shock n lock

something that would send you a txt if your van door opened while locked might be good, or something you could set so if it opened between the hours you set
surely this wouldn't be to hard to do.

Any of you remember the advert for car theft in Robocop? Dude breaks in, gets fried to death and then the door opens and boots him out. That was in the 80's and I've been waiting for it to be made readily available ever since 🙂

Frankys idea sounds good ... Or maybe mobile cctv so you can watch ya van etc even when your not there just dont make it some huge monitor you gota hall about job to job lol

Move to a theft free area like the moon

If you have got and they want it -- its gone

the thief that steals stuff out of your van is one that has too, in their priority. if they cannot take your tools they will take your van

I'm guessing shatter proof glass isn't allowed on vehicles for some reason or else it would of been done already by now....but shatter proof glass would prevent them panning your window 😛

what about a lock on taser ? tasers them and alerts you so you can go down and act out your own justice no please involved 🙂

What type of key can get into any lock? A pikey.

You'll never stop the scum that steals tools. Round my way it's pikeys. The police tell you so....most of the time they know the ones who do it (normally have a drug habit).

I've been done three times. Last time was over a bank holiday weekend. They broke into the house we were renovating. A VERY posh house, with long private drive and electric gates. They took tools, basins, boilers, and then climbed on the roof and stripped the lead.

The client then got security guards in the house so they wouldn't re-steal all the stuff again. They tried another 3 or 4 times. Even had the front to ring the doorbell at 3am to see if someone was really in. The guard said he called out but no one answered.

I think they should chop their hands off. I'm not kidding.

have you seen those security devices that are legal in africa? they are anti theft devices but are actually flame throwers mounted to the under side of the cars and are then pointed up and out at each door so any one trying to get in gets a free cremation service.

YouTube - South African Car Flamethrower
if i run the country, that would be a top design and legalized over night ,along with my mains direct to the van idea, bullfinch would get the contract to design it(being in brum and as British as they come)

My brother once wanted to rig up a door so that if someone broke in and opened the internal door (old fashioned thumb latch type) they'd get full mains power through em.

We talked him out of it. Didn't want to come in to work in the morning and find a dead thief on the floor. Though in all likelyness it would just have made em jump!

Get robbed of your living a couple of times, and your karma compass goes a bit squiffy.
