Verdigris

Hi all,

I need some advise please. I've discovered some what I understand as verdigris on a pipe in my airing cupboard. It's not wet now and doesn't appear to be actively leaking. I will be tieing a rag around it to monitor it however.

Anyway, how do I sort this out, can I clean it and get something to patch up the pipe with or do I need to call out a plumber to sort it out?

That's a leak and if I was in your shoes, I'd get a plumber. I expect he'll spend more time turning the water off, draining that pipe and cleaning up the joint to repair it than actually carrying out the repair itself!

Probably labour only unless he's mean enough to charge for 25cm of PTFE tape but I'd expect a bill for up to around £60 for say 1 1/2 hours of work. But be prepared for other complications - some jobs look easy to sort out and they take ages.

For someone who's not doing these types of jobs day in, day out it could easily take 3-4 hours, most of it being frustration.

I agree thats a leak that wants sorted. But while you have someone there I would get the pump isolation vavlves changed to the type with a gland (your plumber will understand) as the type you have are next to useless and will leak.

Don't try to clean it., leave it & get a plumber.
Agreed change both pump valves with gate valve type.

yep i,d be replacing both pump valves and the short bit of 22 to the 3 port .

The leak is above the pump so eventually the water will get down into the electrical connections - call someone in
