Vw transporter swb 85hp

I was thinking of gettin one of these on a 2013 pre reg special. It's trendline spec, very comfy and getting 4.5k off the new price, never been driven. It's off a vw dealer.
I'm just worried that it'll just be to sluggish. Does anyone out there hav a vw that size and what do ye think. I just do service /maintenance mainly around Dublin city so wouldn't be doing much motorway travelling.

I imagine it would be nippy enough mate, it's not like your going to have a boiler,8 rads and enough tools to build the titanic If your Doing Servicing With It 🙂

nice motor but if you are just crawling round town you will have DPF grief

Good tip, have a pajero at the mo. a shogun over there. Know all about the DPF lights. Luckily since the recession kicked in, traffic not as bad as it used to be over here. Anyway, I usually avoid d traffic by starting at half 9 and work a bit later. Am looking forward to avoiding the petrol station a bit more.

I have owned a vw t5 for the last 4 years and I have 105bhp t28 .

Fitter needs :
t32 140/180bhp +air cone+ cruse control

just my personal opinion and what I will be getting after few years as I am going to keep my van for until is 10 years old .

85 bhp is fine.
My transit is 85bhp and its great at shifting a heavy load, its only the top end that suffers get 75-80 mph on flat. Not great on motorways but adequate. Around town dont notice the difference between it and a 100/120 bhp. You would only notice if you like to wheelspin from a standing start. ...

It'll be enough, they're designed for torque. It won't set your pants on fire, but it'll be great on fuel. I had a t4 on loan for a few months, at first I was disappointed. But after a while I loved it and didn't want to give it back.

BILLOCKS, I run a T26 85bhp and it does exactly what you need from a van, it goes fm A to B. Being as I live in vw ville with all the surfers all I hear is the issues with halfshaft failure and clutch problems of the larger engines. a van is for work,if you want points on yer licence there is no better way than belting round in a box to collect them

i agree its to little bhp,the landys not fast but that has 115 bhp ,we had a sherpa years ago that had 80 bhp it was so gutless it would not reverse uphill when fully laden

clutch fails on all vw,Audi,shkoda,seat as is there weakest point.
Most problems comes with vans from engine remap

hi there 85 hp will be fine , go easy on any ply racking , plastic & ally racking will keep the weight down . 6 speed is a must , get some vw ally wheels also will hold tyre pressure better in a couple of years time when the steel rims get a smidge of corrosion on them . look after the side sliding door .

I'm not worried about going drag racing in it just want to have enough welly in it to keep up and not have to screw the beep out of it just to move along.
the 1 I am looking at this week has air con, arm rest, updated sounds ( very important) cruise control. I'm never going to b carrying much other than maybe the odd commercial gas burner, large expansion vessels or heating pumps.
just don't want to b travelling at snail or tortoise speed.

The test drive will not be the same , unless you put 500kg on the back mate !!!
Seriouslly if I only new someone to make me a suggestion would have never bothered with 102 but would have paid 2-4k more to get a t32 with 140bhp +6 speed gear box ! Hope you don't mind me helping you out . Are you a sparky ?

Nah I'm an Rgi in Ireland (registered gas installer) same as a gs registered over there. Can't afford 1 with the big engine. Too dear here in Ireland. A new vw transporter Lwb trendline 102hp in Dublin wide set you back near 30k. I saw this 1 swb trendline 85hp pre regs with no mileage for 21.5k.
You can see why it's a bit tempting. Thanks for the advice all the same. Vans were going cheap in the recession but prices are going mad now. Me brother bought a new transit for cash in 09 for 11.5k. Over 20k for the same 1 now.

Halfsgafts my a&se ! Have had van 4 years and have changed clutch + DMF , timing belt +pump ,, set of brand new break discs and pads all around , and 1 glow plug ! Total mileage at today is 73900 !

Really and truly must service every 10k , and yes sometime some are been unlucky with the old 2.5 170bhp engine , but with the new 2.0 140 bhp will not go wrong .My wife has golf mk6 which has exactly the same engine 2.0. 140bhp with dsg .

New t5.1 has amazing dsg with 7 speeds that gets fitted to all Audis

Never heard a bad thing about them , wife has the 6 unfortunately ! Only touran has been sent out from manufacture with wrong oil in dsg but they are not the 7 one

Vw t5.1 has problem with stering but the dsg is sotmg build as far as I know ! No one has complaint about the dsg 7 , only complaint from it is on the 180bh as it has long 1st and is not quick at traffick lights but vw has responded that if it was shorter would have damage gear box as engine is too powerful for the gear box

Hmmm the 85 must be pretty slow. I have a t30 with the 140 and find it ok, kind of wish id gone for the 180, but I use the mway alot. The 2.0s don't seem to have the thrust the earlier 1.9s had, definitely a lot more revy.

Trend line has no AC also, definitely worth going for the high line.
