Warix Flange

View the thread, titled "Warix Flange" which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

Hi,
I have been speaking with the help line at Stuart Turner and the advice they gave to me was to install a monsoon 2.0 bar universal pump to do my whole house. So I am getting one of those.

He also recommended installing a Warix Flange top of my hot water tank, so I will do that also. When I look, there are a few different ones, but have now narrowed down to 2... Either 1 inch male or 1 inch female.. I am not sure how I know which one to order. I say that because I am ordering from a place called BES because they sell at approx £17 rather than more than £40 at local plumb places...

I guess I can take off what is there and look, but, dont want to do that and have 24 to 48 hrs before replacement comes. All the pipework coming out the top of the cylinder is soldered, so, taking out what is there is a job to do when I actually have the flange.

I hope all that makes sense.!!

Many thanks for some advice please.

That is a male thread 3/4" unless its 28mm copper but it looks 22mm to me , can you confirm the pipesize?

The pipe size is 22mm... I just measured it with a mic to make sure....

I thought... if it was 15mm pipe, then the thread was 3/4"... and if it was 22mm pipe, then the thread is 1 inch... Am I wrong?

BES (gas controls) is a long established Birmingham based retailer and wholesaler and has been doing mail order for years - good to do
business with they have virtually everything you can think off and more than you cant

That looks like a 3/4x22mm cylinder union as opposed to a 1"x 22mm union that you should find on the primary tappings (coil) on the side of the cylinder 🙂

Thanks Tom, I have read that an Essex would be better, but I am restricted. The tank does not have any room around it for me to get at it witha drill, and the door to the airing cupboard almost touches the tank...

Anyway, this morning I went ahead and removed the nut at the top and took another picture... I am not entirely sure of BSP threads, whethere what I have is 1 inch or 3/4 inch... I know this much, the thread is male, so I need a female flange, and the thread is 33mm (32.81mm actually)...

Just as an update to this. I spoke to Stuart Turner again. Their advice was, the drop pipe on the Surrey Flange was too small. Also, the Warix Flange, although a higher, better throughput, when being fitted, would allow the side mounted connector to be pointed in the direction that is required, rather than some random direction of the Surrey Flange.

So, I called around all the plumbers merchants, and they all say they same thing, we dont keep in stock, we can order and get them in a few days, price approx £35.00... Then one local plumbers merchant, he never had any, but he pointed me to another plumbers merchants not far, whom, he said he saw them in their stock a few days ago. I called them, and yes, 3 or 4 of each size in stock. 10 mins drive, got one, it turns out that mine is a 1 inch male, so I needed a 1 inch female, but they only had males, but they gave me a collar to convert my male to female. And, the Warix was only £15 plus VAT.. Incredibly half the price of the other merchants..

So that is now this weekends job to do. I guess it will take me maybe half a day by the time I have finished. Gettin excited at the fact that I will have decent hot water flow throughtout my whole house..!! 🙂

A final update for this.

Fitted the warix flange and pump. I am delighted, after 17 pipe fittings, lots of corners, into the loft, out of the loft, etc, no leaks... Pump went into a small area and is surprisingly quiet to what I expected it to be. Thuse Stuart Turner pumps ARE really the dogs danglies for build quality etc...

Now my life is almost complete, I have 2 showers that are now not just a measly trickle, I may even have to tame them a tad. I can now start to renovate the en-suite knowing that my newly renovated main bathroom has a proper shower..!!

Thank you all for your help in this little project of mine but expect me back - LOL

Cheers
CJ
