Had pencilled in today some heating works which was 60 miles away (120 mile round trip), took the job on as would have paid well . On arrival at house and several bangs on the door and phone calls recieved no answer but was told by neighbour that they thought they had seen them going to work earlier .
All in all complete waste of journey and time , what made it worse was that it was a slow road there and back , has anybody else travelled a fair way to do a days work only to get no access and how far was it ?

I went to a job the other week, was there on time phoned the guy "ohh was that today?" even though i spoke to him a few days earlier, he apologised and asked to reschedule, this time i didnt turn up😛

Worst one i had was on a contract job. Urgent work needing done in a school in Inverness. Had to chop and change things about to fit it in for the next day.
Left at half 4 in the morning, 7 hour 350 mile round trip in the snow.
Not ready!! I was raging 😡 (i took out the swear word). Billed them £368 travelling time for 2 men but that was not the point.
Job got done 2 weeks later.

Do not go anywhere far now without ringing first and double checking custard in,no number or no answer,do not go ,people are to rapped up in themselves now

Had to many wasted trips in the past 🙁

When I worked in social housing wasted journeys where the norm, especially in the poorer parts of towns. I was on call out the one week when the phone rang at half one in the morning. I answered and was told to go to Cannock (prob an 70/80ish mile round trip) foolishly I didn't phone before I left (but I was half asleep) got all the way there and a lady answers the door

"wheres the major water leak?" I said

"there it is" she said, pointing the the overflow outside the house.

It was the smallest dribble I have ever seen, I was not happy, the worst thing about it was that the firm I was working for only covered the gas and heating and this was coming from the toilet so the council shouldn't have even sent me. I could have cried

Drove to Manchester from Nottingham for "an emergency leak" in a kitchen, 3hrs drive later, the emergency leak was a tap, dripping slowly into the kitchen sink, why the office staff couldnt have made it wait till monday I dont know.

next time ring before you go.....
or at least before your half way there.

i get caught all the time as the phone cost money.lol.

Had one a little while ago. Not too far, about 20 miles away from me.
Woman was moving back to the area after living in Bristol for a few years.
Phoned me to see about going round to run some cold feed and waste for a w/mc.
Went and looked. House was rented. Told her what needed to be done. She told her landlord. Everything was agreed.

Due there on a monday morning, so goes and gets the bits together on the Saturday morning.About £45 in total.

Turns up Monday morning and she says oh I texted you the weekend to say that the landlord was not going to let me dot he work. I would of had to cut out some boxing in to access the soil pipe, and make good.

Now I know full well that she had got a bodger to do the work, because a week later I get a panicky phonecall saying hot water cylinder split and could I come round as I had done work for her the week before. Needless to say I ignored the 7 phonecall from her, and when I did finally speak to her I gave her both barrells. The phone wnet dead.

Interestingly, I had cause to do some work this week a few roads up from her. As I drove by the house I saw a piece of 32mm exiting out the side of the wall, about 6 inches above the floor. Soap suds everywhere. The bodger had just let it terminate over the pretty block paved driveway........W£NKER!!!

it's unbelievable. did she think you would forget that you hadn't actually done the work or did she forget? wonder what the landlord said when he saw the pipe out of the wall.

Probably doesnt even know about it. I am guessing that as she was paying for it herself, and pulled a stroke.
What really got to me is that I was going to make good the boxing in, which is in a garage FFS

Crazy, what gets me is why some custards phone a plumber in notts when they live in manchester??? I get people phoning me from york and harrogate , are there no plumbers there or something/
