Water accumulating in pump area of washing machine

Hello,

I have a hotpoint washing machine.

There is a recurring bad smell coming from machine.

I have checked for blockages and cannot locate anything in the pump area at the bottom. I did have one a month of ago and found the culprit tanged on the pump rotator. I drained the pump area and the smell (rotten egg smell) disappeared. I drained the excess water that had accumulated in the pump area (bottom panel of machine) so it was empty.

The washing machine hasn’t been used for a couple of weeks yet the smell has returned. I opened the bottom of the panel again to access pump area and it was full of water (smelly water that had been sitting there). Previously I had drained this area of water and assumed it was empty.

Is there a reason why in site of the machine not being used there was a water build up in pump area?

I have this evening drained it again.

Any ideas?...

Do you have pictures of the waste outlet under the sink, water could be running back in from sink or dishwasher?

hi there,
every time I do a wash water accumulates in the bottom where filter/pump located so I have to drain every time. the water smells as it sits there - this has started to happen every time after a wash so i'm wondering if it is the pump that has failed? the machine is 3 years old....any ideas?...I shall post pic of under sink area.....

Can`t see it clearly in the photo but I like to the spigot pointing up as in the link below then there is less chance of water entering and running down the hose. Talking of the hose yours looks to be under stress so see if you can re route it.

Many thanks...this watereally accumulation has only started to happen within last couple of months. ...Ive no idea about Re routing hose. This is what the guy piped up when I had my kitchen fitted.. could it be that the water is going back into the filter pump area as you suggest?..
No idea how to remedy this other than get a new machine. ...not even sure if hose and stuff could be rerouted. ..slightly confused. ..should I be clipping hose higher level so water doesn't return back into washing machine? ....

Thank you. ..I'll investigate further....one thought was that it could be the pump breaking down...however id assume I'd hear a change in sound of the pump. ..it just sounds normal so this may not be the issue.....would a pump break after three years?.....

Do you mean that there is water inside the pump that is released when you remove the filter to inspect it? If so, this is normal.

Or do you mean that water is leaking out of the pump and collecting in the base tray of the machine? If so, the machine needs repairing.

Most machines have a 'drum cleaning' programme that should be used every so often. Also manufacturers recommend that you run a 90°C cycle from time to time to prevent biofilm build up, which is what causes the 'eggy' smells. (I do both to our machine about every 6 weeks or so and chuck in a dose of Detol for luck.)

The apparently kinked (as it comes though the back of the cupboard) outlet pipe also needs to be sorted out, as others have said.

Thanks chuck, I put through a wash. Afterwards water enters base of machine where it sits. I just call it the pumperfect filter area where I drain it. I take off the panel/casing and twists off cap and drain out water. The water smells. I now have to do this after every wash.
I don't know why this is happening.
I assumed it could be broken pump. There are no objects in the pump area or on impeller that I can see that would block drainage.
It has been suggested that it could be the hose.
The machine is 3 years old.
I shall have a looked at drain hose pipe.
What do you mean ref it is kinked? Should I straighten it out?...
Not sure how I would sort that out. ...
Thanks ref Detol tip. I have ran a hot wash for eggy smell but smell returns.
Should some water actually sit in the base of machine? Is this normal? This is what I'm draining after every wash as it smells. But as you suggest is this water normal in this area of machine? ...I drain it cos it smells bad after every wash.....

I have ran an autoclean/service wash with vinegar and baking soda and initially the smell disappeared but it's back!
I am going to look into the piping under sink and connecting to the washer.
Can I ask, when you refer to outlet pipe, is this the drain hose? Are they the same thing - the drain hose is grey and connects to washer - should i be checking this now for stagnant water stuck in pipe or returning to machine?...
Ive no idea why the machine has been plumbed in like this by the kitchen fitter - it's been like this for a while but for some reason this smell has really became strong in last month...i assume there is water stuck in the hose ...
