Hi guys

im a newly qualified gas installer, well 12 months ago. The only problem is we focused in the 3 years training on gas! Surprising enough! Lol. However we never talked about testing water. Only really came to my attention on benchmarks. What kits are available out there?

the first thing to do is go onto water boards website and find out the water quality in the area the boiler is to be fitted. You should be able to get a ppm figure. If the figure is near or above 200ppm then you may need to use some form of protection.

if you want to test the water yourself you need a tds meter which tests for total disolved solids and gives you a ppm valve. This value will be slightly different from the valve given by the water board.

you may also want to test a water ph level, done with either ph paper ot a ph tester simular to a tds tester.

ebay and aquarium's are a good place to look. Dont go for the cheapest.

ive got a hanna dist1 tds meter, very good quality and price. got mine shipped from the usa off ebay i think.

a tds is also good for testing water quality when powerflushing heating systems.
