Customer called saying his water bill had doubled in consumption in the last quarter. The water meter was going round even with everything turned off.

First turned off main stopcock, meter stopped so pipe from meter to stopcock ok. Checked all toilet overflows, all ok and toilet valves in good condition. No tanks in loft as combi boiler.

Checked for any signs of leaks, no damp patches anywhere.

Water meter is only turning slowly but customer says his consumption last quarter was around 30 cubic meters more than normal. So if a leak inside it would be obvious. Don't think there are any pipes under the concrete floors but still some checks to do there.

Any ideas as to what to check next would be appreciated.

filling loop on combi?

If water meter is still going round and all outlets shut and you cant see and leaks check the wastes so you if you can track it back from there. the water is going somewhere

Filling Loop ok. Combi pressure ok, prv dry and no sign of any leaks from it. The customer is going to clear the manhole cover today, previous owner planted a bush on it, so we can check for water going in to main drain first.

isolate everything and open in turn to check for meter movement. if all isolated and still movement you got a leaking pipe somewhere, aint interplanetary craft science really 🙂
