Hi all,

I've been adjusting our combi boilers flow temperature based on outside temperature. A sort of manual weather compensation. The weather compensation curves you find go through the whole flow temp range e.g. 30-60C+ what are the risks of bacterial growth below 60C? How are people with low temp heating systems & weather compensating systems mitigating the risks of bacterial growth? Does inhibitor & magnetic filters help? I'm just wondering if it's all a bit pointless, you may reduce gas use but could be costly down the line if bacteria do invade and cause problems expensive to fix.

You can always put some biocide additive in if you are worried. E.g. if you are using Fernox F1 inhibitor they make this

to go with it. Other manufacturer's have their own versions. I would not mix biocide from one manufacturer with inhibitor from another myself because I always follow manufacture's instructions with these chemicals.

Ah ok didn't know that was an option. I'm guessing it's not standard to throw that into a combi boiler installation although you wonder why not, given how we're told to run our boilers low these days. I've got Sentinal X100 inhib, will have a look if they do a biocide. Can I add this without draining the whole system? Thanks for the info

Bearing in mind most sealed heating systems will be lacking oxygen anyway I haven't heard of this being a major issue. I turn down the heating temp on my combi during warmer weather and back up to full during cold spells so this would sterilise the system anyway.
