Hi all,

Wonder if I can get some advice from you before calling in a plumber? My daugther went away on holiday for three weeks. When she got back, her shower refused to work.

When you turn on the tap and then try to pull the knob up for the shower setting, it refuses to budge. It is stuck in the "up" position. However, you can turn the knob and take it out.

Is there something I can do myself to get it working? Or does it look like the whole fitting needs to be changed. It is about four years old.

Thank you

Sounds like your describing a Bath / shower mixer type valve...? If so it may be seized, and you might be able to free it up by dismantiling and cleaning up... If not bath shower mixer are pretty cheap, or spares available if you know the brand maybe?

Although it is in "up" position, when you turn the tap on, the tap runs but not the shower. Not sure of the brand.

Cleaning hasn't helped. I would need to change the fittings. Any plumber based in East Barnet who could help out with this?
