Hi, I've been trying to find a 'washer' to replace what used to be under the hot sink tap of a neighbour of mine, and I don't know what it's called (thus I can't find it online). It's the flat plastic disc (with a hole in it!) which goes in between the top of the sink, and the base of the tap body. I think it might be called 'poly washer', but that only brought up one result, from Screwfix, and I think it might be the wrong item. I've seen it called 'tap gasket' in a book of mine, but it might be an American term.
I don't want to have to buy her new taps just to fix this little problem (the tap is loose and I want to repair it properly, with a new polywasher (or whatever it's called!).

Many thanks guys (and gals).

Are you a Plumber?
Use a top-hat washer between back-nut and underside of sink. Dont forget to change the fibre washer on the tap connector.

Hi, no I'm not a plumber. But what is the name of the part I'm after? You mentioned everything but the one part I need.

err.. plastic washer? You need a top-hat washer to secure the tap properly, then if you cant find the plastic washer you want (just ask for one at the local plumbers merchant) you could use a smidging of silicone. The washer you describe is not for the purpose of securing the tap but is to stop water penetration.

Oh, by the way you will also need a tap/basin spanner

Thanks guys, I just thought it might have a special name, as I presumed there were all sizes of washers, and every time I searched for 'tap' and 'washer', I came up with the rubber washers that actually go inside the tap.

I already have a tap spanner, and I've fitted a fair few new taps, but somehow my neighbour has just disintegrated the plastic washer underneath her hot tap, and it rattles around like nobody's business, hence I need to fix it as soon as possible.
