What would you have done?

Went to a glow worm fuel saver compliheat this afternoon to replace a fan.
When I get there the combustion cover is off. Told him that he shouldn’t really do that etc etc. Anyway change the fan and whilst I doing he goes on to tell me that he’s just put a new gas valve on (what an idiot) & he only called me in as he couldn’t get a screw out holding the fan in. Anyway I finish the fan pop the combustion cover back on and check for leaks on his DIY installation and then fire up the boiler.

The pilot lights ok then the main burner fires up unevenly flames popping up all over and a bit of a bang as the unburnt gas lights up. Looking at the age and condition of the boiler and the bloke I decide to ID the boiler and cut the gas pipe to prevent him from fiddling any more.

I decided that I didn’t want to be responsible for him killing himself and everyone around him.

Would you have done the same?

no, I'd have asked his permission first so he couldnt do me for criminal damage and if he said no, give him the paperwork and call transco fm my van and let them do the dirty.

Personally I would have walked away the moment he said he had just replaced the gas valve.

I did get his permission.

He's an idiot but not suicidal

I'd second that. There's no way I'd have worked on it. Even if I checked out his work and the valve was ok. You don't know where he got it from and your checks are only as good as the day they where done. Tomorrow a fault could show that hadn't the day before and then its your head on the line as your the last bloke there.
