Hi all,

Strange one here, went to one of my old customers the other week as she has had a mental bill for her water useage,

she lives on her own in a house with 1 bathroom and one kitchen yet she is using over 24cubic meters per month, apparently that is the average use for a home housing 6 people,

so i cheched everywhere i possibly could, under the house not a wet patch in sight, no overflows going and no burst in the main between the meter and the house (did the glass of water under the tap trick).

so is there something im missing, surely she cant be usung all this water on herself unless she has a secret swimming pool out back that constantly needs filling.

all i could think of is to get her to read the meter morning and night and record what she does each day that uses water.

any thoughts?

a friend of mine had a problem like this, his w/c was letting by without him noticeing and consatntly running into the pan, needless to say when he got his bill he went through the roof.

just a thought.

Whats the glass of water under the tap trick? 🙂.

Hi Turn off all taps etc. in property and put a listening stick on the stopcock to the property. If you can here water moving? The problem may well be a burst service or shared supply. Good luck

odd one as you say, could be a faulty meter, is she on her own main? could be on a shared service without knowing

on the other side of the coin i turned a customers water off the other day and it didnt turn ther water off! the customer had a kitchen extension years ago and had a stop tap just for the new kitchen extension ( just sink and w/machine) not for the whole house! When he asked to have a meter fitted the water board fitted it to this tap so he only pays for water usage in the kitchen!!

Where is the meter is internal or external

The meter is an external one, only been fitted about 18months ago. the meter guy confirmed its not a faulty meter (dunno how he knows but hey ho) i am pretty sure its not a shared meter but its one to bear in mind on the off chance.

saturday i went out to a call where a engineer i wont say which big company.................the customer had one of them homecare plans anyway it was toilet cistern was leaking they tried to turn water off from mains stopcock and couldnt they left saying the stopcock needed sorting😕

i arrived they were only turning it off the outside tap mains stopcock was other side
