I am looking to install central heating into my house and was wondering if anyone had some advise on radiators. I have sized up my rooms and worked out what I want but now the question is what make to go for. There are so many brands does anyone have any advise/recommendations?:confused5:

I only really fit stelrad radiators, they are good quality and lots to choose from depending on your price range.

Thanks for the quick replies - sometime you don't kno if you are just paying for a name so tis is really helpful.

just to put the cat among the pigeons I think they are all much of a muchness, many ,although differant names on,many are produced at the same factory in italy, main thing is to make sure inhibitor is added and kept in the system, just go for the ones that hit ya button:whatchutalkingabout

imho

I agree Puddle. I think one of the main things to look out for is the quality of the packaging. Nothing more annoying than having to take a 600 x 2000 K2 back to the merchants as its dented or scratched

Stelrads are heavier and seem whiter so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I agree with Puddle though, I'm not sure there's much difference until, that is, you get into "designer" radiators.

agree with puddle!

Rads do what they're meant too... Down to personal preference really! Centerbrand are cheaper yet have a decent finish and option of grille or not! IMO

I am also in the process of installing central heating in our house and have just fitted some Stelrad radiators.
We looked at various types of panel radiator but the other halve did not like the look of most however we settled on their Softline range. In our opinion they look good and are well made.

Stelrad softlines are about the cheapest you (well me) can buy and the slightly curved lines look good. A bit different from the Jones's but at the end of the day a radiator is a radiator. They all work equally well. Whatever floats your boat or you can get cheapest.

Aye grille on as packaged or grilles off and hung upside down for roundtop.

Sorry I am confused, are you saying Stelrad Softlines are the cheapest radiator you can buy. :confused5:
Actually they are more expensive than their Compact and Elite ranges but as said we chose them for their looks. :smile5:

Believe me. Softlines are the cheapest of the Stelrads. I buy hundreds of them. I could get Purmo's cheaper but i don't like the brackets and they are heavier and i am not so young as i was.
I don't know why but they are. They are even cheaper than Elite's which are the same radiator without panels so work that one out!

I can vouch for Tamz, PTS stock softlines and are pretty similar in price to centerads (made by myson). Definitely cheaper than compacts unless your getting them from a warmfront installer 2nd hand!

OK guys thanks for the info regarding PTS.
Unfortunately I have already purchased the rads and they have been delivered.
In fact I have been fitting some of them today. One of them is a double 700 X 1400 K2 coming in at approx 60kg it’s a bit of a beast. 😀

I do disargee on a rad being a rad

Most manufacturers quote ouput with 50 and 60 degree temps which vary a lot

Rettig, purmo, barlow , henrad , stelrad and many other proper rads do not compare with cheap stuff sold by plumbfix and B & Q etc.

Rad manu's (even the ones sold by screwfix) quote the outputs based on 50 delta T in accordance with BS EN442 . For outputs at different delta T's you apply a conversion factor. Most rads of different makes are within a few watts of each other for similar sizes. Compacts have less output.

The quality and finish does vary a lot though.

Thanks everyone for your feedback on this - It has really helped.
I have a quick look at PTS and they do look like they are good value.

Thanks again
