Gas Engineer
Hi all,
Daughter has permanently borrowed my Asus T100TA tablet/laptop:rolleyes2: for studies/uni so looking at a replacement for it.
Looking at the Lenovo ThinkPad 10 as a starter or possibly one of the 11.6" tablets for manuals & the likes. Like the bigger screens & also expandability of being able to plug in an SD card if or when required.
Not to keen on Apple offerings although I know there are loads of good apps.
Any advice is greatly appreciated,
Cheers

ive got a nine inch nexus which is great but for work i use a hudl it got an sd card unlike the nexus and works just as well and im not to upset if i drop it of soak it you can pick them up for peanutssecond hand but i gave 50 quid for a brand new mk1 version and you can get the mk 2 for 75 irun gas engineers soft ware on both and tetther to my phone for boiler manual down loads

i got the acer 8" iconia, works a treat, keep all my work job info on there aswell as all my project photos from each job. i use polaris office to access the info as the built in software on kitkat is kak. i paid £90 new from tesco for the 16gb version and comes with sd card slot for expansion.

hudl2 £99 from tesco. Just got one, great value, 8.3" screen, great balance between price, functionality and what happens if it gets sat on / dropped ...
great reviews from others too.

are all the apps available for windoze pads?

all the main apps are available..but as this has full windows, therefore you can operate full programs on it and full browsers, just like using a desk top ,so that is not an issue..nothing dozey about this little gem..

.The main problem with windows phones, which i now use also,is that there is no full add block app, which can be a pain on some aggressive add sites but other than that,a good business phone

I know your not to keen on apple, but I think its the only way to go!

If not, the amazon fire is a cheaper budget alternative

I am on an ipad air, ok they cost, but its the absolute dogs. Its like if your fave tool got knicked , you would replace it straight away , well if anything happened to this, its straight to the apple store.

What`s this word Wait, I`m here, your not = Goodbye! lol

Take your point and jon`s just chipped in with an Apple Air but I thought this was about cheap end gear which doesn`t matter so much if it gets wet or damaged.

One thing with tablets though, if you gona show the customer some online brochures make sure google doesnt betray your search history..

I looked at a surface pro 3, but even the most expensive ones don't have a SIM option, so you're tied to wifi.

Whats the use of that? I only looked at it to avoid carrying a laptop when I'm travelling. Without a SIM thats useless.

take it you never travel without your mobile smart phone...so you just tether them together..can not see point of built in sim and paying twice for the same thing...

but would add..surface pro is a bit over priced,as is the ipad and galaxy

I would often be on the phone and using the laptop at the same time. Is that possible with tethering?

Check out surface 3 they just released it, unlike pro its cheaper smaller but has a sim

yes
you cannot connect to wi fi while tethered though
so if you are on the move you should always check for hot spots you may wish to use instead if you want to save or are worried about your data allowance

I can get the Thinkpad 10 for about £200 and is good spec -

same spec as from this one from these guys - cclonline.com/product/152591/20C10028UK/Tablets/Lenovo-ThinkPad-10-10-1-inch-Multi-touch-Tablet-PC-Atom-Z3795-1-6GHz-4GB-64GB-Flash-WLAN-WWAN-BT-Webcam-Windows-8-1-Pro-64-bit-Integrated-Graphics-Black/TAB0670/

Like Lenovo as had a R400 laptop from them before when I was in the RN & it handled everything that I could throw at it with ease and was totally reliable which was something that a few of my mates fancy laptops expired half way through a deployment.

Are there any really good gas/plumbing app's for the Windows 8.1 tablet as had a few on other one before it got borrowed by daughter.

Finally I know people rave about the Apple products but I know the missus or other daughter would have it away before I got a chance to utilise it, bit like magpie's, shiny things soon disappear.

One point is the accessories for the Lenovo are a wee bit pricey so was looking at the Tough protective cover first & eventually maybe the dock & a BT keyboard.

Still open to suggestions though and like the potential of the Hudl2, maybe the ideal compromise as running android. Can it have a software upgrade to latest system?

Cheers
