I went to service a Potterton Promax 28 HE A today, with a Honeywell programmer and separate Honeywell wireless stat.

Went to re-sync the room stat as the red light was flashing and nothing. Checked wiring at the PCB and only one wire going in, where as it should have two to complete the circuit.

The customer is adamant that the heating has worked fine for the past 2 years since BG installed it all.

Removed the room stat and programmer to see the wiring, and there's no wire from the programmer going to the PCB, instead they have put a link on the programmer between live and one part of the switch.

Am I missing something here or has the heating never worked for the boiler? Is there another way of wiring it up?

The guy was foreign and didn't really understand what I was on about, and as far as he's concerned, it all worked before I got there! I told him to get back on the phone to BG as it's all wired incorrectly, and the wiring is shoddy anyway, all being crushed going from the programmer to the stat!

No it can work. Live and neutral from boiler to stay control and bridge from live on to terminal 1. Then take (I think) terminal 2 back to the boiler in to the port marked 240v in ( where link usually is)

Ye, the wire was going to the 240v in. I just don't understand how it makes the circuit with only one wire going to the pcb, and the link removed? Excuse me if it's a daft question!

Live leaves on the out wire. Your love comes into boiler on the live feed all that's happening is the live isn't going via pcb. It's just like a system boiler s/l in

I didn't have any of the Honeywell instructions to hand, only had the mi's for the boiler, which shows the two wires going in, so assumed that this is how it has to be done! Suppose I should go back and have another look at it!

Cheers, thanks for all the explanations, I get it now! Every day is a learning day!

I'll pop back and have another browse! I'm betting faulty receiver for the stat, only started flashing red after pressing the "test" function of the RCD fuse spur, which tripped the whole house out, probably damaged the circuit board of the receiver. But shall test it all first, now I know the wiring is ok.

Cheers again!
