hi, im having problems with my boiler, whenever the heating comes on or i put the ho****er tap on the boiler makes a loud banging noise asif its going to explode and then the flame goes out and it just seems to die. relit it 3 times and the same thing happens again everytime. any ideas what it is?

Sounds like the pump is packing in, no where for water to go so overheating then high limit stat knocking pilot out, u need to see if motor on pump is spinning easiest way remove disc in centre of pump and make sure it turning whilst u run boiler.

will i be best calling someone out to fix it or is it something i could try fix myself?

ok cheers i'lcall someone up tommoro. if it is the pump how long would it take to fix and does it cost much? british gas do a call out and repair for £170 i think if it takes under 2 hours. used them earlier in the year for a different fault.

It takes 30/40 mins in total to change a pump head, inc fault finding, draining, replacing pump head and refilling. Thats Prob not the worst deal in the world
