I have a fan to change on the above boiler, Has anybody done one recently? If so, how long should it take as the customer wants a price for installation before I start it? Paul

It's pretty simple if you have done them before, maybe 30 minutes.
i would allow an hour if its your first attempt, you also get a replacement burner red seal with the fan & it may be worth changing the ignition & electrodes as they normally look pretty worn after a few years, but that's up to your customer I guess.

I think someone did a strip down of a greenstar once with pics, maybe worth finding that thread... Possibly gas man did it!

Has anyone figured out what fails on these fans yet? They always seem in pretty good nick when replacing them, I bet its only a small electrical fault attached to the fan control lol!

I had a quick look at a Ferroli combi with one of their sales reps, cant remember the model name but it was £499 plus vat for a 24 kw boiler, flue, integral clock and 5 year warranty which is cheap.

One of his main selling points was that they will supply the pcb part of the fan as a spare part, something other boiler manufacturers should think about. He claimed most boiler manufacturers use 2/3 suppliers for the fans ????

if they are giving you a fan pcb as a freebee you can bet theres a problem with them and there having loads come back. £499 is cheap but you only get what you pay for. the good thing for you is that you will prob be fitting another boiler in a couple of years

helps to read the post, not free but available as a spare which makes it a much better option as a boiler as replacing the fan isnt required. As ever its not the boiler thats the issue normally but poor fitting proces in the first place that cause them to fail, hence why so many warm front boilers dont last!
