temperature

Temperature ( tem-per-uh-cher) is a physical quantity that expresses the degree of hotness or coldness of a substance. It is the manifestation of thermal energy, present in all matter, which is the source of the occurrence of heat, a flow of energy, when a body is in contact with another that is colder or hotter. Temperature should never be confused with heat.
Temperature is measured with a thermometer. Thermometers are calibrated in various temperature scales that historically have used various reference points and thermometric substances for definition. The most common scales are the Celsius scale (formerly called centigrade, denoted as °C), the Fahrenheit scale (denoted as °F), and the Kelvin scale (denoted as K), the last of which is predominantly used for scientific purposes by conventions of the International System of Units (SI).
The lowest theoretical temperature is absolute zero, at which no more thermal energy can be extracted from a body. Experimentally, it can only be approached very closely (100 pK), but not reached, which is recognized in the third law of thermodynamics.
Temperature is important in all fields of natural science, including physics, chemistry, Earth science, astronomy, medicine, biology, ecology, material science, metallurgy, mechanical engineering and geography as well as most aspects of daily life.

How inefficient is this temperature pattern?

We have a large kitchen/dining area and I've measured the temperature. It's an interesting pattern... up and down.. and up and down... even though the thermometer is set at a constant temp. No night time set backs or anything like that... just inertia. We have a GSHP and ancient controls (see...

Vaillant EcoFit Pure 835 Temperature Panel Control

Hello all, Just moved into a house with a Vaillant EcoFit Pure 835 boiler that is 3-4 years old but the previous owner did not bother to register with Vaillant, so Vaillant says its not under warranty. I've noticed that despite setting the CH to 60 degrees on the boiler's control panel, the...

Outside sensor slope vs room temperature setpoint

I recently installed weather compensation on my Ideal Vogue Max and I'm very confused by the settings menu item called "outside sensor slope", which lets me select a number between 0 and 40. The manual states that this adjusts boiler performance relative to the building insulation, but doesn't...

Outside temperature sensor - weather compensation. Viessmann

Morning all Viessmann Vitodens 200-W 35kW combi Outside temp sensor probably failed with boiler reporting incorrect temps. Corrosion on Thermistor. To replace the sensor, does it have to be the exact model showing on the manufacturer’s website, or would a slightly older (but same spec) sensor -...

What is the sound I hear when the shower gets up to temperature?

We moved into a house in the summer and there are two showers, one upstairs, one downstairs. We are using the downstairs one as the one upstairs needs replacing and have noticed that when you turn the shower on, after a short while there is a longish beep. It sounds like it comes from maybe the...

    Honeywell TRV low temperature

Hi. I have all the rads in the house controlled with wireless Honeywell TRVs. This was done by an installer about 2 yrs ago. The kitchen TRVs are not working properly. The app says the kitchen is only 5 degrees as per the TRV, but the room is definitely warm and as a result, the rads seem to be...

Why are fan convectors meant to be on Constant Temperature circuits?

Why are fan convectors meant to be on Constant Temperature circuits? I originally thought that it was because they aren't suitable for lower temperatures, but I recently found that no to be true since you can use them at 55/44 flow and return temperatures (Oversized). Radiators go on variable...
