Same as any other system filter. Its piped that way so the full flow doesn't go through it. It will all go through eventually but the type of filters in them would mean the flow rate through the system would drop considerably as it gathers shyt so when it is full it is just bypassed.

As I thought but that's a stupid design as would of thought you would want it before your pump to stop all/ most of the crap going into it
 
Its for commercial systems. They are not as sensitive to dirt. If you put it in line in most commercial systems it would totally block within a week.
 
Better to have a filter and a seperate dosing pot.

Yea but surely that would block and not work as well better off putting a mag filter inline instead of the combined paper and mag filter
 
All it needs are another two connections and its a low loss header too!
