Lovely bit of kit :)
Remember if fitted to old system may require cleaning out a few times over short period,to get rid of any large build up around magnet

fitted many great .........but have had a few leak and one even popped off 4 days after fitting

they do leak around isolation valves...but also do work, was asked by lady around the corner to clean hers after new boiler fit, lots of crd at first but did slow down to almost nowt....

getting one of these, available 1 Dec Total Filter TF1 for my own new boiler that will be lvie by the end of the week...

TF1 fFitted to new system last week and new system commissioned and running today. Just a few points to consider when fitting. You can only fit at Horizontal or vertical but not diagonally or anywhere in between. You need to leave a gap (think it was 110mm off the top of my head but will need to check) above TF1 to remove magnet stick so space is an important factor to consider. Easier to fit when main body removed but you can fit it complete, just a bit awkward. Couple of cleaning option, quick and full. Quick one is basically a drain down out of the bottom and full, remove stick similar to magnaclean. Dosing point for fernox f range but could also be used dose other chemical concentates after draining.

Will clean tomorrow if got time and see if "hydroclonic" function works.

But so far, Good points, Isolating valves big and solid no leaks or problems with it so far......

Will report back in a few days.

Fitted two of the Magnaclean Twintech filters to two systems in the village last month. Definitely worth the extra £20 above the original magnaclean. Has a clear bowl so you can monitor how fouled up it gets, and it also filters out non-magnetic particles and the brown gunk. I always to the cleaning in front of the customer so he can see how much gunk is in it each time.

In my opinion, I don't like the Boiler Buddy as it's a right pain to clean out.

Yes I have one at home and yes I always do my best to get custards to have one but some people are not evolved enough in the food chain to recognise common sense advise.

This thread jogged my memory and I called in to a customer and emptied the magnaclean twintech to find what looked like hair in it. Sure enough there was a dead mouse in the F&E tank!!

They are worth every penny. We get installers retro fitting heat pumps and regardless of what you tell them, they never, ever flush the existing system. So we now ask them to fit these on the return.

Even though our plate heat exchangers are huge, these babies really save us some grief.

"Yeah, I did flush it, Honest"

I now carry one in the van, find I can sell them better if I have one to show and can fit it then and there ,rather than arranging return visit
Thanks for pictures ,Will print off and show customers to help sale :)

They get the thumbs up from me. I try and specify one on every boiler swap I do now.I could do with one of those demo jars you see at the merchants to show the customers how they work. Nice pictures Paul, Its very satisfying seeing what they have collected.

Yes I carry one.

Those are just a few which I have on my phone to show custards. To be honest they do a better sales job than the stupid glass bottle on the counter of the merchants. The white prod which goes black in your pocket that indicates in every instance "you need a magnaclean" is also worthless. But it was free.

I wish I had taken more pictures, once I banked a few examples I stopped taking them.

Actually I got told off for taking pictures in custards houses. So if anyone recognises their magnaclean sorry!

Be careful when washing them out if you use the kitchen sink. Splashed some nice new white blinds once just a little but that's enough for you to buy new blinds.

My favourite is the slightly out of focus brown one , in the flesh the flecks of rusty metal were about 3 or 4mm the thing was caked in them. What a state that calorifier would have been in otherwise?

One of my flats I just had to change the boiler and took apart the magnaclean I fitted 5 years ago. When I fitted it I power flushed and emptied magna a month later, was quite clean. So never bothered going into the cellar where it was fitted as it's only a magnaclean and pipes down there and I have to remove vent grills to climb in. Anyway on fitting new boiler decided to clean it. It was not bad at all, just a little magnatight and no flakes of metal.Sadly as it was a red valve one from 5 years ago and they have gone through quite a few reincarnations since then, one valve broke the other leaked. Anyway because I am a cheapskate I just connected it back up with two bath tap connectors hemp and paste. Lovely and water tight. I don't need isolators on a sealed system anyway.

considering the primitive fabrication, why are we getting charged so much for these. What prices are you guys quoted for the magnaclean and tf1?

I think last one was £80 ex VAT.

AT B.E.S. there are now a host of options for filtering both magnetic and sedimentary.

Id only fit a twin tech now had too many problems with the old ones. Spirovent is good and cheaper but no transparent vial

Yes, they are hugely overpriced for what they are. I'm sure before too long there will be lots of competitive versions around and the price will come down dramatically.

Magnacleans? hate 'em. 'cos if I had though of it before Mr Adey I would be the one with millions in the bank instead of one of the guys fitting them.

As regards the comments about flushing above, I am meticulous about powerflushing but still find these babies trap lumps of crud that would block the fine HEs that Herr Vaillant seems to like so much. :)

Re: Magnaclean/TF1/Cleaners in general

Best Webprices I've seen: (22mm & ex vat)

TF1 £68.95
Magnaclean pro £79.35
Magnalcean Twintech £99.36
(Plumbnation.co.uk)

Prices not that different to what I get at Plumbcentre.

Latest findings on TF1.

Good points:
You can get about 1/2 Ltr of inhibitor in it after completely emptying(do not overfill as you've still got to get the magneitc stick back in).

You don't have to tighten it up too much to make it water tight. Not had any problems yet. (tis vented though)

After cleaning air vent at the top to vent air. (still seems to leave a little in there though)

The isolation valves are dogs gonads compared to the old red magnalean ones (i've not fitted/used one with updated black valves yet)

Not so good points:

Definately need good pipe clips directly below and above (or L & R for horizontal fitting) to support it when cleaning. Mine are fine but can imagine some heavy fisted cusotmer who overtightened it when hot trying to undo it's when cold:eek::eek:) Still good idea to support it when emptying when undoing to empty/clean.
