I am coming to the end of my 6128 course and was wondering what clubs I need to join to be able to actually work as it seems I can't fart without having to get someone out to certify it. Here is a list of qualifications I will hopefully get:

· City & Guilds 6128 Technical Certificate level 2 Basic
Plumbing Studies
· BPEC Certificate in Part P Electrical Work (defined scope)
· BPEC Part L Certificate in Energy Efficiency
· BPEC Certificate in Unvented Heating Systems
· BPEC Certificate in Water Regulations

I think we are being given a years CIPHE membership but is there anyone else I need to join? and is there an avergae price to join? Hopefully I'll be able to find some work for a local plumber so I can get experience for the next few years but I may be getting some odd jobs for friends and family.

Before anyone posts it, I understand getting the 6128 will not make me fully qualified and I need at least 10 or so years on the job to be 'competent' so please don't patronise me by telling me what I know.

Cheers for any help

ciphe - how are you getting to join this as its based on you haveing the proper qualifications - its a good body to join but i would think you wouldnt be able to get registered with them unless your joining on the apprenticeship membership.

gas safe (again you have to be qualified)

concentrate on getting a website, flyers and business cards made.
i wouldnt bother with 'bodies' until your qualified, as its going to be difficult.

concentrate on getting your name out there. have you got a van, liability insurance and tools etc?

Being a member and being a Registered Plumber is different. It is Registered Plumbers that are promoted to the public. Members may be designers with no plumbing skills or indeed apprentices. Check out the criterion on the ciphe.org.uk website.
