The point of the vent pipe is to take the air that accumulates in the cylinder directly up to the cistern.
From what I've seen, I'd replace the first elbow with a tee and go at least 200mm straight up with your vent pipe before embarking on the journey into the loft.
In addition, to encourage the air to go up this pipe, I'd use pulled bends or 45s (NO elbows) ALL the way up. Under NO circumcises do you go back down with it.
