Kitchen tap-safe to use outdoor hose attachment?

View the thread, titled "Kitchen tap-safe to use outdoor hose attachment?" which is posted in DIY Plumbing Advice on UK Plumbers Forums.

Hi everybody

We currently have an issue with our outdoor tap (possible issue with the check valve-not overly urgent and I’m not confident enough to start a repair job myself in the current climate).

Due to the dry weather I am keen to keep the garden watered and have managed to get a hold of a Hozelock mixer tap adaptor. I am just wondering if this is safe enough to use-ie do mixer taps have a check valve to prevent backflow when the hose isn’t on?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've been using a hozelock attachment on my mixer to water a freshly seeded lawn with no issues but it is the older type of mixer
