Hello all, newby here..

I have an ariston eurocombi sx 20 mffice boiler that no longer ignites.
The red pilot light is constantly on and does not react to it being pushed in.

I have already checked to see the over heat thermostat at bottom does not need to be reset and replaced the Honeywell APS. I could not hear the fan running and so checked if there was any power going to the fan but there is NOT???

Pressure of the system is all ok, and I have bleed the radiators but still no joy. I also tried a working PCB from flat next door which does not help.

Can any1 shed some light as to what the problem can be??? Or what else I should check or change please??

Many thanks

uzzi doesn't sound like there's much more you can do except maybe move next door..lol ... Or get someone in who know's what they're doing. 🙂

Thank you all for your replies... I've so far had 3 different engineers... All 3 diagnosed different faults... 1 said diaphragm and pcb need replacing, other faulty fan (which is bolox as when i checked there was no power to fan), other over heat thermostat. All three said Im better off replacing the boiler which I cannot afford at the moment!

So for now im gonna go play with reset button but keep any other suggestions coming. Thanks

If it helps... the boiler was working fine up until I had a gas fire place downstairs removed and capped of from gas supply...then sacked the gas man over a lil dispute. But the 3 engineers checked the gas supply to the boiler was fine and adequate.

uzzi no offense mate but you sound like a nightmare of a customer.

Did you give any of the engineers that diagnosed the faults a chance to change the parts?
And then if they are wrong, you would have been well within your rights to question the bill.

If all 3 have said you are better off replacing the boiler, what condition is it in?

There are bad engineers out there but that's 4 that you have fallen out with or disagreed with.

All you can do mate is get a GSR engineer in. Its not a DIY sort of subject.

Btw capping your gas fire off would have no effect on the boiler unless he accidentally cut off the feed to the boiler.

If you have lost faith in local engineers, call out the boiler manufacturer, most have a fixed price repair.

Good luck and I hope you get it sorted.

Armour thank you for your reply. Im not a nightmare of a customer.. the 3 chaps I had look at the boiler all seemed more interested in selling me a new 1 rather than repair it. I did not get them to change any parts as neither were willing too and say it would cost me too much and it was not worth it. I have had it for 15 years with a few cheap probs (mainly APS replaced at least 4 times and diaphragm in diverter valve and a PCB once). My next step would be to try an Ariston specialist if any1 can recommend me 1 in Birmingham area. Thanks.

As I said before uzzi, give Ariston themselves a call. You will get an engineer that just deals with these type of boilers and he will have a van full of parts.
If you have paid the fixed rate fix price, he will just throw parts at it until it works.

Having said that, if they turn up and say its had it, then that's it.
15 years is not bad for a modern boiler (how old is your fridge or washing machine?).

Some times its just not worth flogging a dead horse.

Have a look here

I hope you get it sorted mate.

I went to one of these and the reset button was dodgy. Kept playing with it and it reset. Lol!

Arran197 is the top man....... I left the whole system broken for almost a month until yesterday... On closer inspection 2 of the 4 wires hidden on the back of the reset button had come off their terminals. I soldered these 2 back and voila the system fired up!!

I have had heating for the 1st time over a month in this flat... Thats a big slap on the face for these 3 engineers... Am I allowed to name and shame on this forum????
