Do any of your lads work on new build housing,served my time doing it but been house bashing heatings for some time,one of the gaffers from me old firm wants to give me a start,what are the prices like

Earnt some top money on new build apartments in mid 2000,s,but houses have always been poor,just sick of chucking heatings in council kennels,with ********s to match
before the crash i could get good money on new builds. but the profit margins have dropped so much its hardly worth doing the work.
for example, the company i worked for did loads on new build, profit margin was around 11-15% of total quote. Then after the crash the margin went down to around 2-4%. So what do you think happens in this situation? the company wants to make the same profit as before, you cant cut material costs, maybe drop business cost alittle? but you can easily drop labour amounts. What i saw was some prices drop over 50%.
it will get better, prob take 10 years to get back to a really decent level tho imo.
just make sure you talk money before you jump ship.

Spot on AW,nothing to lose cause doing some gas remedial work,but dropped that today,emailed tons of agency's never get back to me,but this gaffer is as keen as,to get me on site,.Might be more call for site plumbers as plenty of plumbers around,but a lot cannot do a s plan,and wont touch unvented

Stay well away imo. Prices are crap, always struggle for materials and inconsistant work. Last site i had house pack turned up with no bath, pan but no cistern, no pedestal and rads short. First fix....sick of turning up to a site to not having any fittings and no drawings. Some of the prices are half of that to my old company.
Prices down here change from company to company.
One firm was paying £70 for a conventional boiler and £115 for a combi
another was paying £80 regardless of boiler type.
airing cupboards dropped £50 when pre plumbed cylinders turned up on site so airing cupboard with solar ended up at £210 but still took the same amount of time.
i prefer first fix myself that's where I used to earn good money there's one bloke this way that will first fix a 3 storey house inc gas and soils in a day and to a standard that people were happy to 2nd fix behind him

Down where I am it's £35 for 1 stack which includes waste ran under floor. It's £10 extra to take it to vent & £5 for an inspection hatch.
