No mate. In a catche 22. Want experience before I go SE but can't get a job to get the experience. I made a big mistake by taking a fast track course. I only realised the error of my ways after stumbling upon this site lol

Way out of my way mate or I'd say come out with me for a bit, once you get the confidence up your be flying!!

Thanks for the thought tho. My problem is I'm a perfectionist. I don't want to start advertising as a business and when I get a call to a break down I make myself look a fool because I'm unsure of the fault. Im trying to get as much knowledge as I can before I go SE but at the same time I need to earn a living. Unfortunately as I can't get a job in gaS I'm having to go elsewhere then the skill fade kicks in

I don't do breakdowns, I hate them, I've never really been "taught" what's what but I can do the basics so I know enough to get me by but most of my work is install work, plumbing, heating and gas. You don't have to be able to do boiler breakdowns to earn money!

Leebaz you can learn the basics without shadowing necessarily. Go on the Baxi fault finding course they are excellent and if that doesn't help you then I'd be surprised. Many manufacturers will offer training so you can build up a knowledge of a particular brand. It all helps

Also do some basic plumbing jobs. Get in a merchants and talk to people. You will quickly learn who the bull hitters are. Get a couple of friendly nAmes in your phone and call if you get stuck. Also unless it's a silly fault tell custard you need to do a bit of research on the model and come on here. Wealth of knowledge is amazing!!!!

get on with you. I started at 43, plumbing and property maintenance, then gas after doing day release at college for 4 years, you get a customer base, change their boilers, and they trust you to do your best. dont charge the earth and you can puzzle for longer and alls well. get a friendly mentor on the end of a phone (100s on here) copies of John reginalds books for bedtime reading and have a go. avoid WB and vaillant if i were you, 105es etc are a doddle and go from there. Stick with one manufacturer for your installs, get to know their boilers, courses or what ever is free and crack on. Also remember boilers of 8 -10 years old now are not going to last long, pcbs funnily enough hate heat, they cost a lot to replace, so if the bits hit £250 including your 20% discuss a replacement boiler, a customer will like you more seeing you once a year for an annual service than 3 times in 3 months for repairs, as pulling old boilers around often causes more issues down the line, hence why BG dont do proper servicing! forget perfection, its the real world out their, folks just want things to work, how you get it going can involve some interesting options at times, not advocating being unsafe but some lateral thought can help with some issues 🙂

thats the spirit Leebaz, i came into this at 36 yrs old am 43 now still loving it went SE from as i had no chance of a paid job did all sorts of work in the early days to bring in a wage. So learnt plastering. Which was a good earner did fencing another good earner, even cut hedges and mowed in the earlydays (not such good earners but paid the bills) now all we do is bathrooms boilers general plumbing and the odd kitchen. Havent looked back. Stick at it you will get there. Get your post count above 100 and get access to the plumbers arms and you wont be on your own. Were a good bunch on here and we will always help if we can.

Loads of help out there HRMC do free courses on filling out your tax return. You might not need an accountant at this early stage of SE. But have a look around and see what help there is.

i did a bit of research on it and made a few calls but never got the information I needed. I like to know as much as I can before I get into anything and as my questions couldn't be answered I got annoyed and left it. silly thing to do really but ill get back into it tomorrow and also look into boiler courses and things.
