Anyone on the forum like betting?

I don't really do horses or footie anymore but something I got into last year was a rolling bet, start off with a bank of a tenner and bet on a goal or more in a game (+0.5), see how far it goes or at some point lose my bottle and withdraw, starting over again. If you go with the odds around KO, you are looking at around 10 games to double your money. Man U (under Fergie) and Barcelona (under Guardiola) both went on streaks of over a 100 games with a goal in, if you'd bet on each of those games, starting with a tenner, you'd be up to at least 10k by a 100.

It takes around 170 games to get to 1.2 mln. Of course, you'd need some serious bottle or stupidity to be sticking half a million on a goal! If you put them as an accumulator, you'll get better odds and it's fairly easy to get 10-20 on a match day but it's also easier to come a cropper.

Now the football season is close to starting, I'll probably start it up again soon, if there's anyone interested, just for fun, we could post our results here. I'm not suggesting anyone takes this up as a way of earning money, winning big bucks is like playing the lottery and in my experience, I never quite know when to withdraw my winnings and hindsight is a fine thing!

Cheers for the sneek peek but I'm not very good at any kind of betting TBH. May have a sly one on grand national day but that's it .... go red rum lol

I love a bet. National hunt is my favourite but I don't bet a lot maybe on a Saturday £4-5 in a couple of different bets.

I can see how people can get hooked and I've got a couple of mates that bet big (a grand on a horse type thing) and I've got a few follow that straight from the trainer and reckon they are a few grand up this year. I looked at it and they have done nothing but lose lol.

You never see a poor bookie...

My old man used to say "if you see a bookie jump out of a 20th storey window, jump after him. There will be money in it."

On the other hand, I made a killing betting on the election - not because I know anything special - just because the bookies were mis-pricing the odds. I just wish that I could find a bookie that would take my bet on the next but one leader of the labour party - I reckon Dan Jarvis is worth a punt, but can't find a bookie to take the bet.

just watched the programme on bookies and punters on BBC, bookies seem to win overall, the professional punters only chat about their wins, not how much they lose. The best numpty was the bloke who won a small fortune by owning cockney rebel, and is blowing it on a yard and a load of yearlings!!

I've done this bet before but it goes down on the silliest of games.....normally start with a fiver and see how far it goes... Bit of fun til your up in the 3 figures....then my heart beats to quick especially when watching the game live....

Gamblers always tell you about their one great win and never the loses...did I tell you about the time I won on a 16-1 shot?

True story actually, twenty plus years ago my barber said stick a tenner on this horse it's a sure thing as I know the owner. Great...you give the lady some money (I had to ask how to fill in the slip) and she gives you loads back, this is easy...I've never been in a betting shop before and I haven't been in one since. Is this the Ladbrokes life? No, a good night was had by all.

Very true. I know a bloke that always had a good day on the horses and if you believed him he never lost. About the time I was going through my money problems this bloke lost his house and family through his gambling debts. He still bets now and watching him I can see how he always had a good day as he was backing 4-5 horses in each race so usually had a winner but lost it all on the other 3-4!

I watched the last half hour of that as well and found it interesting.

The one lad (who's missus was expecting) was a tool! And if he's not addicted then I'm a love God! Lol.

When he lost 1k on the darts I said to my girlfriend what an idiot I wish I had a spare 1k when my son was born I certainly wouldn't gamble it!

Steve Palmer that was, who writes for the racing post as a golf tipster and is pretty good at it as well.....

Not seen the documentary, might try and hunt it out. Clarky, you're right about it going down on the easiest games... or even worse on the first haha. Starting off with the Champions League tonight with Maccabi Tel Aviv v Plzen and Dinamo Zagreb v Molde. Naff odds before kick off, much better to wait a while but it's the lad's birthday, which I'm sure you'll agree is much more important 🙂.

It's the sort of thing I might do for a laugh as I know naff all about football or horses. Stick a fiver on something completely random and carry on betting the winnings. I'm self disciplined enough not to put any more cash in beyond that initial stake, though.

I do a £5 accumulator every saturday, sometimes horses other times footie. Never had any big wins, odd few quid here n there. Did one last season and had 9 out of 10 teams for £15k. Felt gutted that day for a few hours !!! Overall I'm probably down against the bookie.
