Has anyone come across extremely mains high pressure in a domestic property ?..? I used 2 gauges one at 6 bar and other at 10 bar both were off scale when static. I was shocked at the readings. Have since fitted PRV. Just seeing if people have experienced the same.
This is my first post on the forum... but I've been around a while, lurking. Hello!
I'm hoping someone can advise me with a question about unvented cylinders. I'm told they must be connected to the mains and can't be gravity fed, but I'm having trouble understanding why... if the pressure and...
I have a Plimex ball valve that is the inside stop tap for the mains supply that has recently started leaking.
It’s only 2 years old (when property was renovated) and suspect it could be due to thermal cycling with the cold weather.
Access is restricted as the pipe work was put behind a plywood...
The internal stopcock was closed for the first time in about a year as part of a bathroom installation. Now that it's open (I leave it a quarter turn from fully open) it has a slight leak, approx half an egg cup full in 24 hours. Should I get it replaced?
Thanks in advance.
I have a flat in a 1920s UK block.
The mains water feeds ~40 flats, of which I am one.
There is no local boiler, though there is a communal one for the whole building.
Recently, always at night, the mains water pipes have started to vibrate at a high frequency - emitting a "singing" note ...
I would like a professional plumber's advice on this attached image, which shows a mains pressure pipe with tap located above the consumer units.
Is this ok for the legal requirements in the UK?
Can someone let me know what the law is on this matter please? have a link? Thanks all.
Hi all,
I had a problem recently with the pressure to the house exceeding the 3 bar that the caleffi pressure regulator was set to. The gauge on it indicated that static pressure would sometimes increase to 6 bar; it's not just a gauging issue because the HW cylinder next to it starts leaking...
Hi Boys and Girls,
I am splitting currently supply inside into 4 and upgrading old 1/2 galvanized supply from the street into building without breaking pavement into waterboard stopcock.
I am using a moling company to bore pipe in through a trench I have dug out. I have agreed to make good hole...
I live in a maisonette and there is a single pipe that comes in from the street for both flats.
The pipe that enters the building is lead, probably 3/4, and is changed to 15mm copper pipe with an stopcock. This goes on for about 5-10m where it splits to both flats.
Generally, water pressue is...
Looking at the picture attached would you say that this old stop tap can be taken apart and the washer replaced rather than making the job more complicated than it need be. It looks like a really old type of stop tap situated under the kitchen sink flat to the wall with no space around it to...
We’ve purchased a 1920’s bungalow that’s been unoccupied for a long time. I’m in the process of trying to sort the water supply at the moment.
The water meter was submerged and when drained would quickly fill up again, we had south west water take a look, they said it was a leak on the service...
British gas fixed a leak in the boiler and said the due to the recently installed water meter the fluxuation in pressure caused the leak. They advised to get a expansion vessel on the the cold mains entering the boiler.
I read on here someone say that Worcester wouldn't warranty boilers being...
I need to replace the stopcock on an old mains water pipe. The house is about 60 years old, the pipes OD is 30mm, my local plum centre said they had no parts available to do this. The old stopcock is leaking and seized solid. Any advice about where I can get the parts to fix the problem would...
I'm putting in a new rising main to my 1st floor flat. The pipe work is to run on the outside of the building in Insuduct. The water board will put in a new connection to the property boundary then a 750mm deep trench has to be dug to the Water Boards spec to the property (approx. 3m. long). I...
Hi all, hoping for some help here.
Over the last 2 months I've been experiencing dips in water pressure from my kitchen tap. The weird this is that these are momentary dips in pressure that occur every 15 seconds. It seems to happen in the mornings and evenings and is making my plastic pipes to...
Hi all,
I have two questions that I'm looking for advice on please?
1. I've been asked to fit a double check valve on a new incoming main. I only did my water regs last year and this wasn't stipulated in the reg's? Has this now changed or did miss something? The property in Cheshire. The main's...

Hello,
I am hoping someone on this forum may be able to offer me some advice.
I had a big water leak this morning from the mains water supply into the house, under the sink. The leak occured before the shut off tap that i could have used to turn the water off internally and had to turn the...
Hoping someone can help diagnose whether the blocked plate head exchanger in my mum’s combi boiler is down to the heating waterway or mains waterway.
Issue is that she only gets around a basin’s worth of hot water before the tap runs cold. No issue with water pressure from tap, and central...
