On a thread I started recently , cannot find which one, somebody mentioned that bleeding of the rads on an open vented system should be done with the pump off so as to not possibly draw air into the system. Do I read into this then that auto bleed valves are not a good idea on that type of...
Hi all I'm looking for someone to join me on a job next week for 2 days- I can be flexible as to which days. The job is to swap over a conventional boiler for a system and replace all 8 radiators. Your role will be to get all the rads done and to generally lend a helping hand. Please only...
We recently moved to a rented property. Last Spring it was converted from oil to gas central heating. The property is a 1960'S chalet bungalow. The current boiler is made by Ideal and was new last Spring.
The heating works and heats the house very well, but the noise is unbearable. The bedroom...
Hiya
We recently moved into a 25 year old house and all the rads were working except for the kitchen one which was stone cold as was the pipework leading to it.
We got a plumber in who fixed it but then our bathroom upstairs and small bedroom rads didn’t heat up. The plumber returned put some...
Hi. I posted a few weeks ago because after my central heating system was drained and leaking valves repaired, I could hear the sound of water gushing and coursing through my rads and pipes. The really helpful forum advice was that there must be air in the system and to keep bleeding the rads...
morning guys just looking for some advice I think the answer is hopefully straight forward however just double checking got 3 new rads fitted a just over a month ago however one had a small leak which got sorted a 3-4 weeks ago last night I noticed one of upstairs rads had a slight cold patch...
Hi
Maybe someone can advise on this scenario:
Property: 3 storey semi-detached townhouse, built c.2004.
Hot water: Megaflow system, in upstairs airing cupboard, which works well.
Heating plumbing: 10mm plastic microbore, header tank in the loft.
Boiler: Natural gas IDEAL Logic 18Kw+ (upgraded...

I drained, removed and then replaced 2 large rads upstairs to decorate. And now they're only getting warm, and in patches, not evenly. The bottoms are almost cold, and some upper areas are actually quite hot.
It's a conventional boiler, gravity fed system.
I didn't touch anything in...
Heya
I'm a total novice at diy, having just bought my first house. Sorry for the dumb question that follows.
I've drained and removed a couple of large rads for decorating, but now they're back on, I'm unsure if I need to refill the loft tank somehow to make up for the water lost?
It's a...
Hiya
I’ve recently moved to a new house which has gas central heating and I’m confused as to how it works!
So when I first switched the system on, all the rads, except for one got hot.
The main thermostat control is located in our hallway and is set to 21 degrees. However every now and then I...
Potterton gold 24he. Changed DV, actuator motor, magnetic flow switch & descaled secondary heat change. What else could it be!?!? Before doing this shower was just getting hot and cold. Thanks in advance
Ok, so if your in the Gas Safe forum you can view my worst week ever. One of the jobs that went wrong in that week was a basic rad single panel for double swap, should have been nice and easy, plenty of movement on the 10mm pipe.
Only it went wrong because I turned up with a 600w by 400h rad...
As in the title, the flow and return pipes both get hot when the heating is turned on, yet only the upstairs radiators get hot.
I am very puzzled by this. Even turning off all thermostatic valves upstairs, none of the downstairs rads get hot. Our plumber says there must be a blockage looking...
Hi, I put a new central heating system in my property 3 years ago and used danfoss trvs. I have never managed to successfully balance the radiators using these trvs and wondering now if I've fitted them properly. It's a fine line from hot to warm eg each trv has 5 heat settings but heat setting...
Hi,
A customer wants cast iron style rads throughout, 9 or 10 in total but currently has 10mm pipe .
Is there any problems installing this type of rad on mircobore? I'm worried about the water content being much higher and it not circulating?
Anyone else installed these on mircobore?
Cheers
Elderly customer with a 10 rad system. Last 2 rads on system (downstairs) were not getting hot at all. Has contract with BG, they came round, turned off some rads upstairs and downstairs all got hot but said needs powerflush and new pump.
Powerflush carried out then rads were worse.
Most not...

Hi all
we've a Flowsure combi oil boiler circa 2003ish. Thermostat set at low (mark at 4 o clock) Radiators are roasting to the touch and water scalding. TRV's are all working. Guessing the thermostat on the boiler could be dodgy??? or could it be something else. Definitely burning plenty of oil...
I’ve just moved in to a property I don’t have a big knowledge of plumbing at all I have a Vaillant Boiler when it’s in normal mode only 2 out of 3 radiators work but if I put it into service mode the one that doesn’t work then works help please ?
