1inch copper to 28mm copper

View the thread, titled "1inch copper to 28mm copper" which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

Hey will 28mm solderd fittings and compression fittings fit on old 1inch copper ok or do I need a converter like is needed for 3/4 to 22mm.

Depends on how hard you work on it with the sandpaper. I normally just bray on a 28mm compression coupling and go from there.

Best to use the correct 28mm x 1" solder reducer but you should be able to get away with 28mm coupling at a push, but ths solder may not flow if too tight. 28mm Compression fittings are OK.

They are very tight, (albatross is not joking about a hammer), - even if you emery them a lot, so I would use a proper 1" - 28mm soldered connector, if you can find one, or if it is in an accessible place above floors, like in an airing cupboard or boiler room, just use a brass connector, although the cheap brass ones have tight nuts.

is it similar to 1/2 to 15mm copper then the fittings will work but will be abit tighter?

A lot tighter probably, although I find old pipe varied in tightness slightly. Some 1/2" is just too tight for 15mm solder fittings.

Are 1inch to 28mm couplers available at most plumbers merchants? It's a 1inch incoming water main I need to change place I'm hoping the outside stop tap turns off fully so can solder to it if not, do people think compression is acceptable, its going to be underneath a solid floor eventually.

Compression fitting won't be accessible under a solid floor and if it weeps it will cause a lot of damage to the concrete before it's noticed

would it start weeping once connected and tested? Its not like it can be knocked down there.

The slab will be a different temperature to the incoming main.
that little bit of difference can cause movement.

solder it, if external stop tap doesn't shut it off then get the board out to sort it.
Might wanna invest in an aqua vac to suck any water out of the pipe.

Just us manometer tube billy it's potable water! I would rub down then just flux up pipe and rest fitting on top and heat it and push down with length of new tube in top . Once in full slip cool joint with flux, wipe clean and rehear and run in solder and flux. Clean off after... Simples

Primus? Grandad we use copper glue or push fit. Ever tried hammering a fitting home with a 25 ml plastic tube?

Sound can I call round and get
10no test nipples
100no ecv washers
5no 1" unions
1no u6
And dozen regs and meter brackets?

I have loads of each. If we need govs/meters we just go and pick them up they aren't signed out. I get govs by the box load,I've got 4 meters on the van,2 ETM's and 2 G4's. Loads and loads of 5 and 10 light washers, meter box elbows etc etc.
