I have a tired old Makita 8406? which is on its 2nd or 3rd clutch, so its time for a change
Was going to have the Marcrist DDM1 for £234, then spotted a Milwaukee DD2 for around £340, then started looking at the DDM3 for £519 and now in a quandry
I will be replacing my core bits with the Marcrist PC850's whichever I go for, is the Milwaukee DD2 worth the extra 100 odd quid over the Marcrist DDM1? is the DDM3 really that good? any one used all three to compare?

depends how much coring you do. i've got a ddm2 (don't make them anymore virtually them same as ddm3) superb bit of kit, almost indestructible. but it is heavy. For the amount of coring I do would probably go for the ddm1 if I ever have to buy again!

Have you used both DDM1 and DDM2 or 3 to compare, how often do you use the core drill, once or twice a week?

Dewalt D21583k here.
Some good deals to be had.
Has a proper hypoid industrial 3 mechanical speed gearbox with speed control.
Should last for years.

Can be used wet or dry.
Have mine dry with vac attached to wet to provide extract.

Had a look at a ddm1.
Didnt like, felt like a toy and for what I paid for mine was worth the extra.

I use this Dewalt one:

DeWalt D21570K-GB Silver Bullet 1300W 127mm Diamond Drill 230V | Corded Diamond Core Drills | NoLinkingToThis

MUCH better than my old Marcrist. Million times more comfortable to use and cores way faster. Done probably 20-30 5" holes with it so far, including lots through 18" solid stone walls (lots of that round here) and it has never missed a beat.

Absolute bargain. Can't believe I used that bloody big heavy Marcrist for so long.

I had the DDM2. The Dewalt is faster, lighter, and 10x less annoying to use. I've got some Marcrist core bits and some Rothenburger. Think the 5" I use most is a Rothenburger.

Hi,

We use the Marcrist DDM3. Good bit of kit but heavy and the clutch still grabs with some force!

Makes life interesting though 🙂

thats the set up i have with the rig https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=w...co.uk%2Fweka_drill_motor_dk13_17.html;660;513 and nothing comes close. i had a few core drills and was looking at hilti rig mount . phoned some drilling companys and they all said hilti was toffee flavoured. alot of hem had weka so i looked into it . its not cheap though it cost me around 2k with drill rig cores and a transformer but sometimes it takes me longer to set the drill up than it does to drill the hole.
