it was not that long ago that the acops was being passed by painters, labour's with ease. Infact the first time i passed my acops and became gas registered there was 3 painters on the course who had no plumbing experience but got the course for free off the dole, they passed.

The LSA is just another so called governing body that is basically a clique and exists so that:
a) Its members pay extortionate membership fees.
b) In paying the above, contracts are kept solely to it's members.
It's like being in the Masons or in a club where if you're not a member, you're not wanted.
The original LSA was set up to promote good practice with sheet lead. I'm not a member but worked for a company that was and I've used lead that doesn't even have a British standard (code 10) in some of the most important historical buildings in Scotland to a extremely high standard. Now I can't work on these buildings, because some muppet from a organisation wants two and half grand from me. Think not!

Hi. System. I seem to think it the LCA (Lead Contractors Association) rather than LSA. However the content of the script is accurate. Nepotism has spread to the small business commercial world. Perhaps this practice amongst the Lairds was how they afforded to build these beautiful building in the 17th century. They certainly were not plumbers.
Its nice to see a bit of plumbing that requires very few tools to complete, difficult to make from a training manual and giving the perpetrator satisfaction. Not ever bodies cup of tea but its a skill that needs to be kept alive to maintain visually pleasuring additions to existing buildings, along with the more mundane aspects of this craft.
