Hi all,
am wanting to purchase and fit a couple of two way valves.one for dhw the other for rads.
am an electrical engineer by trade and have the required skills and knowledge
etc to safely shut down the system and drain it down.

once plumbed in I will be wiring in myslef.

Could you guys please recommend
a)suitable 2 way valves ,preferably the type that can have the motors etc replaced without having to remove the complete valve.prefer good quality rather than cheap and cheerful.
b) a suitable wiring diagram for the boiler( conventioNl heat only gas ideal Mexico) the two valves, two pumps one for dhw the other for the rads, tank thermostat
c) intend using the bg hive unit as room thermostat and program unit.

system is conventional hot water tank in loft, indirect with open vent.
Could I finally ask, should the valves go on the flow or return to the boiler ?

Regards,
johns

presume you are a electrical engineer and not an electrician, btw you only need one pump so you might seek the advice of a plumber before you start to save on some expensive retro fitting later on.

Thanks for the advice guys. The second pump on the hot water side was fired by previous house owners as they used an anthracite burning trianco which always required a flow of water so they told me.
It's wired straight into the boiler supply so runs all the time the boiler is powered up. Think I'll just remove and let gravity do the hot water

Thanks

Whats already in there?

You may need an automatic bypass valve if one isn't already fitted.

take some advise before you go messing, you point out it needs a constant flow which you then intend to remove!

Hi, think we've got wires crossed.
The second pump on the dhw side was fitted by the previous house owner who had an anther cite burning boiler.
They told me it needed a constant flow of water.
I had it taken out and replaced with a Heat only ideal Mexico gas some years ago.
It currently has two circuits one for dhw which still has the extra pump on.
the second circuit is for rads. This is also pumped which is controlled by the normal room stat.

Im looking at fitting valves in both dhw and rads circuits and using the hive as room stat.
The extra pump can come out and simply have gravity dhw but keep the one pump for the rads.

Regards
John.

you have two options

option one buy a book eg plumbing for dummies etc

option two imploy a plumber/gas safe eng to sort it for you and you can wire the system up

Hi thanks for the reply,
Option 2 is much easier said than done.
Have tried to contact 6 plumbers/ heating engineers over the last two weeks.
E mail,telephone and voice mail.
Only managed to actually speak to two.
One said I'm in a site meeting mate will ring you back. He never did.
The second took all my details Bur never made any further contact.

It's either too small job or they are all very busy which is always good to see,but the lack of response leaves you frustrated.courtesy costs nothing.

Thanks

you will get a call back

well you are best served by one pump working on CH and HW circuits controlled as a s plan set up using 2 x 2 port motorised valves., unless the mexico is using 2 x flow and return primaries and one is gravity, but still better to have it all fully pumped. Probly the case is that they looked at it, the systems old, they arent up to speed on older systems and ran away. use the i need a plumber section and tell the world were you are and chances are youll get a response from someone on here.
