I have an Alpha CB24 with a flashing B light (the once per second steady flashing) and no hot water or central heating.

The boiler has been intermittently working for a couple of years and (mostly when the weather is warm) getting into the flashing B state from time to time. This week though the boiler has failed to recover from the broken state.

It now appears to revert to the standard brief B flash when left alone for around 3hrs, but on attempting to run hot water or heating it quickly fails in the same way every time and stays in the failed state for a few hours.

Does anyone have any idea on what the cause of this steady flashing B light could be? There seem to be a number of comments suggesting that the temperature sensors may be the issue.

When I run the boiler to reproduce the failure, I hear the usual noises and clicks that I expect to hear from the boiler (sounds like the burner is briefly on), but within seconds it quickly shuts down and goes silent with B flashing.

:welcome: to the forum blacksheep 🙂

Flashing 'B' on it's own does lead you to test the sensor parameters and if need be replace! It depends what 'A' light is doing to be honest 🙂 I wouldn't recommend having ago at repair yourself as you do need to be GSR when messing with case seals, draining etc. IMHO

Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds sensible. I have just been looking for Alpha boiler repairers in Edinburgh. Hopefully I'll find a good one.

BTW, A is is off. Just a flashing B.

You don't necessarily need someone Alpha, IMHO .. Just a guy/girl who is confident in tackling your particular boiler! Don't mention you've been on a plumbing forum though!!! That'll get their hackle's up lol 🙂
