Hi all, my name is Sam and I'm new to the industry. I'm currently doing a C&G 6129 level 2 technical certificate and a part P domestic installers course w/ NICEIC registration.

Been doing the 6129 since January and am enjoying it very much, however i have some questions after a depressing read of the forums; my college obviously 'forgot' to tell me about it being phased out... I have enough work lined up for the 6089 NVQ level 2 assessments and was about to pay but I don't want to waste any money if i can't continue onto level 3 and do gas...

Does anybody know if a 6129 TC + 6089 NVQ level 2 is enough to move onto 6189 level 3?

Cheers guys any advice appreciated.

Don't know owuld love to know myself before I consider further action.....Good Luck though in you endeavor's and welcome to the madness.....

I think as long as you have the NVQ it should be OK there will be a few things you will not have covered on the 6129 that would have been in the 6189 not nothing that can't be over come. I will confirm later re the transfer.

Just to confirm Sam & plum ber, my friend has confirmed that it is possible to use the TC & NVQ gained at level 2 to gain entry onto a 6189 L3 there is a different course number which has to be used because you have not done the 6189 at L2 but it is not a prob. Just remember to complete (& make the most of) the course you must be employed, it is also a big step up from the L2 so be prepared for some hard work. Make sure the college you go knows what they are doing there are a lot that don't my friend has students attending from 4-5 colleges who either cant teach it or are so bad that are prepared to travel half way around the M25 to attend, so beware.

Thanks Chris Watkins, you know they say hindsight is a great thing.....All we can do now is try and educate others in our failings...

Thank you Chris that's very helpful! *sigh of relief* I am at a college in Norwich called CTS who have been great so far, my tutor will be doing the NVQ visits and is very knowledgeable. I should hopefully have some employment for the level 3, but early stages of talks on that one. Can't wait for the real fun to begin!
