Any advice on backfed water systems?

I'm about to get a backfed water system installed from a pipe in the utility room, as the mains pipe under my downstairs bathroom has collapsed and it's the easiest way to fix the leak. The plumber is confident this is a good idea, but I can't find any info about it online. What are the pros and cons? Thanks

I take it you mean your plumber proposes feeding the mains into a different part of system?
If that's the case crack on all normal stuff.
Just be careful not to leave any unused dead legs.
