I am thinking of moving to Cornwall some time in the next year just wondered what the job situation around Truro area was like any good companies down there to work for? Whats the pay like? I have my gas oil and LPG so think it wouldnt be too hard to find a job down there the other thing I noticed was alot of ASHP so maybe thats something else I should look into getting. I am kind of guessing its the same as everywhere at the moment.

Cornwall is relatively large in area and small in population, except when summer drags in the tourists. Like the welsh the cornish can sometimes be not very welcoming to those who dont speak like them, my family farmed there years ago. Being reliant on tourism for a lot of income, pay in general is minimum wage so those there dont like or have masses of money to spend on plumbing. Very much like north devon to tell the truth. Locals tend to use people they know and its blow ins (newcomers) that take on the likes of yourself. if your from somewhere like brum with a large population and you have work, youd be mad to go sw in my opinion.

Blow ins lol.

My dad moved down there years ago and everytime I go down there I could end up working for a week as nobody seems to be able to get hold of anyone decent. I even had my dad on the phone in a friends house the GSR wanted to charge for 3 parts £700 to repair a leak he told me the make and model I said look at this it should only cost £200 max to repair and he just went oh yeah didnt spot that.

Oh no I live in the Cotswolds now the grass is the greenest in the country here. But the beaches are better because we have none. lol

remember theres money in the cotwolds yr round, they only go to rock for a week or so each yr I know where Id choose to work!

Haha, you can imagine the upset it caused when I turned up to a pub in a tiny village not too far from Truro! Some Jethro lookalike got very upset by my accent!

I like Cornwall, but only to visit, I couldn't live there. Very much like West Wales, very slow pace of life and not a great deal there!

I worked alot in cornwall last year penzance, hayle,st ives, bude to name a few and the wages are notoriously low on the books . Subbie rates not much better either £12 to £14 ph or there abouts. As lame plumbs suggests if your not from the area then your not welcome but that counts for devon as well . As far as im concerned if your from north of exeter then your not welcome doone soof!

As Hammers says, low wage's high cost of liveing, never enywere to get parts, nice place to live but dont expect to make a high wage, everything now revolves around holiday trade, go's dead in winter, get past Bristol and you are in Rocks & Trees country, forget it if you want to do training on boilers etc nothing down here, except loads of Plumbers looking for work, you may be OK in the larger Towns/Citys but outside these forget it.
