Hi guys, went to quote for a job today. job involves a refurb on a shop and the upstairs is being converted into a flat, the project manager is wanting a gas boiler in the flat but electric heaters in the shop. my query is that the gas meter is located in the shop. should this be classed as a meter located away from the building and so just put a secondary ECV at the entry point to the flat above? the project manager doesnt want to have the expense of moving the meter into the flat. what do you guys reckon? im going to scour the gas regs at the weekend but just looking for a second or 3rd oppinion on this one.

Cheers guys.

i would fit a secondary ecv,the flat occupants need to hit the supply off in a emergency

'the way I see it' the ECV has got to be accessible,if the shop is locked and the flat occupier has no access then a AECV must be fitted

There needs to be access to the meter & ecv at all times, as well as secondary ecv in flat.
If no access to the main ecv the installation's AR

Who will the bill be sent to as surely the meter is currently registered to the shop but the actual consumption will be taking place by the tenant? Does the new flat have a proper recognised postal address as issued by the post office?

well im assuming the flat will have a proper post code, its not something i asked the developer. ill have to get on to her about that. as for the gas meter being moved the developer simply wont entertain the idea unless its essential. although i definatley agree i would fit a secondary ECV in the flat - goes without saying.
