tamz

what exactly do you mean by hammer & screwdriver?

what methid needs to be applied?

Think Tamz means a large screwdriver or cold chisel hit with a hammer with force to induce a "shock" to break the sealing compound, once it`s moving then the spanner or large grips will unscrew it. Just increase the amount of force used slowly and keep an eye on the tank for any ripples in the metal.

cut the outer raised edge of the element with a hack saw or multi tool ( 1st cut straight down 2nd 5mm to the left of 1st cut down at an angle to meet the 1st). then get a roto stop drill with chisel in the groove, this will break the seal with ease. undo with box spanner, clean off and fit new. you do not need to put anything on this to seal it only the fibre washer it came with!!!!!! that's why you cant get the old one off.

I've not changed that many as of yet, so I'm still waiting for the day I get a stubborn little sod.. So far I just start draining, while it's draining I put my box spanner on it and try and get it moving. So far so good. I did have to use a bit of heat on one I changed. Not a lot mind.. But got it out in the end. I need to get a longer tommy bar for my box spanner to make it easier 😉

Dont know where i saw this but it worked a treat on one the other day. heat the immersion with a blow torch get it nice and hot then throw a really wet rag on top cracked the joint a treat, then a descent box spanner quickly to remove

it will be good seeing the welsh rugby team performing badly in the near future, 🙂

You remember that sinking feeling you had when you found you had a couple more bulbs than you expected?

That'll be like watching Wales in a couple of weeks time, that will.

mate I'm bipolar, seems both parents are now Australian, got a welsh name, the Mrs is Scottish, and supporting England seems to be the only sensible option 🙂

I would recommend doing it during draining the system as its much easier to get it loose because the pressure is everywhere the same therefore easier to make it loose. I never had an issue like this before.

I would use a box spanner and tap it slightly to make it a bit loose it this doesn't help you may end up making it hot and then using a box spanner but you need to becareful in general as its under pressure with hot roasting water and very thin copper.
