Hi guys

I just want to check what's the best practise for my setup. I currently have a washing machine and dishwasher connected to my waste pipe as follows: washing machine into long tall tube from waste and what looks like a push in spigot for the dishwasher. Occasionally the dishwasher waste water leaks and i'm thinking it may be through the push in spigot connection. It wasn't installed by me.

I'd like to redo the connections. I have a single 40mm waste pipe going behind the wall so am thinking a dual spigot would work and connect the dish washer and washing machine up to each spigot respectively. Is this best practise? I had read some advice which suggested a separate 40mm waste pipe for each appliance. The dual spigot would be much more desirable. Is this wise and are there any pitfalls? Thanks

The pitfalls occur when both appliances are in use and drain simultaneously....one standpipe won't clear both appliances without spilling unless a larger diameter pipe is used

Thanks. Do you know what size pipe I should use for the two appliances if I use a dual spigot? Or should each appliance have a separate waste pipe?

The pipe runs through a wall and into the downstairs toilet waste pipe so technically I could run another pipe or extend. A big pipe would probably be better as the downstairs toilet sink is also on the same waste pipe and it would look less cluttered. That said I'd prefer to do a proper job.

If you are going to upgrade the pipework to 2" and reduce before TRAP connection, use a Mc Calpine double spigot trap to connect the appliance wastes, secure with jubilee clips. and you will be ok. Hope that helps.
Kind regards
W.
