I am considering upgrading my 20yr old CH system and installing new radiators and TRVs. Would it be false economy fitting under 10quid TRVs (Eg I don't want to be changing them ever year or so).

Well, generally you get what you pay for. As the old saying goes- Buy cheap, pay twice. That said, ive found the cheap Bulldog valves from Plumbcentre pretty good.

A standard thermostatic valve is under a tenner now, dryton are a bit more put had just as many of them stick
As long as system clean should be ok and if you close any off just open and close once a month when passing

You can often pick brand new Drayton TRV4's in bulk for about £10 each on Ebay. They usually come in a "trade" box not the usual blister pack.
