Automatic air vent problem

Hello,

I have a Worcester heatslave 15/19 RSO oil combi boiler.
We have had an issue where we haven’t been able to get heat to the radiators but we had hot water.
I replaced the diverter valve cartridge yesterday as believed this was the problem when I then refilled the boiler with water we had a couple of small drip type leaks one being from the auto air vent with water dripping out the top.

I have drained the water out again and am trying to get the air vent off but it is stick rigid. The manual says you can just turn it, I have tried this by hand and with a spanner but it won’t budge.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get it off?

Don`t see anything in the photo to put a spanner on, do see a cap with ridges which indicates using a pair of grips if you can`t undo by hand.

RPM thanks for reply yes as you’ve mentioned there is nothing obvious to put grips on apart from top rim. Will try bit more.

They're probably a hex section at the bottom of the air vent, covered by the lagging at the moment.

Similar to these, but your's may be 1/2" or 3/8";

Snow head- thanks I’ve moved some more of the insulation to expose the bottom but there is nothing there to turn a spanner on. Is there any reason I can’t spray WD40 on the base to loosen it as there is a fair bit of rust at the bottom. Thanks

I’ve got the cap off by using a large pair of water pump pliers. But the bottom doesn’t want to come off. In the picture what you see is the top of the water tank unfortunately there is no where deeper to go.thanks

Underneath the body of the valve I think I see White ptfe tape and the lower part of the body seems to have scratch marks on it.
Use the water pump pliars there where the marks are.

Yes to using grips on the lower part of main body.
I use Footprints grips and won’t matter if they chew the brass up a bit as going to be replaced

I would love to see Norfolk actually as my uncle used to live there. 🙂

Best you don`t apply for Cultural minister for EA then! 😛 and don`t ask for a free holiday on my boat on the broads either.

The problem is not the diverter cartridge. If it was you would get heat to rads all the time even on water only.

Probably more of an electrical problem clock or circuit board.

As for the air vent then it's grips on the body and off it will come. Make sure you've had your weetabix.

A stillson would be better than grips or rack plier, IMO. And it looks a bit big for Mole grips.

Limited space for stillsons and mole grips come in a large size but at the end of day it is only around 20-25mm dia and the OP has booked somebody to attend.
