Well it's my turn for the dreaded back pain again! I've got lower back pain with pain going down my hamstrings booked in to see the Osteopath on Monday evening and hopefully he can square me away.

Worst thing is playing pic pirate with my daughter Harriett when the Pirate popped out it made me jump which sent me into spasm haha

any one else suffering?

Yeah I've had a dull ache in my lower back for a few weeks now started out when moved in a certain way absolute agony with shooting pains in my back

Like a fool I've ignored it but woke this morning and struggled to get out of bed! I don't want to have time off so I'll try the manipulater, never been before so fingers crossed it will help a bit.

I feel your pain mate. Bad pain is the worst. Ibuprofen and abit of rest. Hope you're on the mend soon.

ps don't play "don't take busters bones" with your daughter it might finish you off!

Hope your better soon. There's nothing worse than back pain. We all get it from time to time and you don't wish it on your worst enemy. A visit to the chiropractor can help the back but damage the wallet.

I'll give you another free tip, if you use tiger balm make sure you wash your hands before you go for a pee. That was a bad bad day.

Get referred to a physio if it persists. Only rest it for day or 2 then you need to stretch it out. Too much rest will make your back worse. Did mine carrying rads and ended up sleeping on all fours for nearly 2 months .

I don't know if this is the right advice as i'm only qualified in the school of hard knocks so take it as you will.
Never lie down to back pain. Keep moving and active.

I've suffered from a "sore" back off and on for about 30 years but only once can i really say i've had a back sore enough to lay me out and loose work over and i can honestly say it was the sorest thing i've ever endured.

Slipped a disc once and trapped a nerve. Got it without even realising twisting in a combe attic to reach a valve.
Was crawling on my hands and knees on the job. Finished what i had to do and crawled into the van. Chiropractor had a shop on the way home so fell out the van at her door and crawled in (literally)
After a half an hour session where i thought at one time i would never walk again she put the disc back where it went but said to go back for more work on the trapped nerve. I walked out still a bit sore (understatement) but bearable, just.
Next morning i woke up and tried to get out of bed..........no chance.
I rolled onto the floor and crawled to the bog for a pis but once there, there was no way i could straighten up to get near the bowl.
Had to shout on my lass to get me the basin and stick it under me (what a fkn embaressment (she was about 14 at the time) but good training for her when she's wiping up shyt if she wants an inheritance :smile🙂
No drugs (well nothing legal) will take the pain away.
A week at the chiro and 2 lost shifts and i was right as rain!

This job will knock lumps out of your body and take years off your life.
Brilliant trade int it :frown:

If you've been in the game for a while it may be worth getting an Xray on your back.
Osteopaths and Chiropractors can weave their magic and it suits some people.

For me - just about stuffed me up.

Got an Xray - and was told not to go back to either of the above mentioned.

I haven't changed my working practices much but just have learned what I can do at any specific time, and when to take precautions.

I only found most of this out when I was holed up in hospital for 5 days.

I get it about three times a year. It starts with aching in the lower back, then down the back of the legs.
i can't stop it coming on, but have found a way of sorting it.

it turns out to be a short muscle that goes from the base of the spine horizontally to the side of your hip. With us plumbers kneeling or crouching for long periods, this muscle goes into spasm.
Two ways to cure it.
get a sports massage on that area, hurts but works. Or the best way??? Cycling! Yep, keeps it healthy.

I was going to reply, try shagging in so and so position - if you don't have a bike

But this isn't in the Plumbers Arms.

So I will refrain

Believe it or not, despite all the hard work plumbers do & the way we twist our bodies to reach stuff, most of us are not fit enough to avoid back pain. I now do some basic stretching exercises immediately when I get a twinge & have had no serious back trouble for years. If muscular pain, try lying flat on your back & pull your knees both towards your chest as far as possible 10 times. Then roll over on your front & do 10 what look like press ups, only let your body sag down in the middle (so that you are basically bending backwards, but on the floor) & then roll over again & then finish with 10 of pulling your knees against your chest again. Really loosens your back up I find. I also agree with the comment that keeping active helps.
Swimming is supposed to be one of the best things to strengthen your body.

Every plumber/heating 'engineer' (don't know why they call themselves engineers?) has a back problem. Most just don't know they have it, till it pops

Stretching it works. Hang by the arms from the loft hatch with a wean swinging from each leg for 10 minutes or so pulls things back into place

I went to the chiro a while back with back probs. He made me face the door & took a photo of me on his i pad.He told me straight away what my prob was.Years of carrying a heavy tool bag around in my left hand had made my body lob sided, even my pelvis was out of alignment.
His remedy was to carry my tool bag in my right hand for the next few years & then come back & have another photo session.

I suffered from a sport related prolapsed disc when I was 28. Shortly after it happened, I was severely restricted in what I could do. Careful exercise, physio and pilates were brilliant. 6 months later I had regained almost full movement.

The best thing you can do is keep doing the pilates exercises and don't forget to do them when you should. Keep active, don't keep stuck in the same position for too long periods, stretch regularly during the day as advised, and dont sit too long in front of a computer without getting up and taking short breaks, walking around. Make sure you have a proper computer chair with lumbar support and correctly adjusted. Avoid lifting really heavy things - get help, or think of ways you can make it easier by mechanical means.

Right went and sore the osteopath on Monday, poked about a bit while I stood in my pants and then cracked my back for 15 mins, felt great not 100% but much better! and felt progressively better every day since so would deft recommend to anyone in the same shoes.

Back monday day night for more prodding and some stretching exercises

Last time I had a back injury that actually laid me out only one thing sorted it but it did it in about a day. ROBAXIN. thank you pharmaceutical industry and Thankyou the GP whos name I cant remember who wrote me the prescription. Never slept better and woke up cured. Have been more carefull since but on the odd occasion I get a problem its normally with my upper back and shoulders but the physiotherapist sorts it out a treat.
