lame plumber
Well it seems everytime I go to this bleedin bum end of the county, it goes wrong. first 48 miles to get there, and the sat nav delivers me to a track miles down a country lane and tells me "you have reached your destination", really, not a house in sight and all cows n sheep. So I continue on, meet a farmer in his landie and ask if he knows Ash barn at Eddystone. Couldnt believe my ears when said, you be in Eddystone.........Ash Barn, I know that place........................... why you ask? Oh ,nothing says I, but they are expecting me, oh.......................he says, tis a b,,gger to find you know........... So by now I'm beginning to want to kill him, when he goes, continue in the way you going.......... there be a track, and follow that and you probably find Ash barn on yer right, or left, cant think now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh thanks I say and pee off down the road, track found, following it for miles in a full circle and back where I started to see Ash barn entrance behind where his bloody landie was parked. FFFFFFing locals sense of humour test I presumed.
Anyhow, nice new rayburn 480, twin burner serviced by aga and now me, so no surprise to find the baffles havent been touched in 3 years, stuck fast muttering for 40 mins to get them out. Rattle on, late for next custard now, nozzle changes etc and run up the boiler, tickety pooh 15 mins later all tested ok. next the cooker side 10 mins in and the owner points out the smoke fm the flue on the roof. Feck me, the bleedin Hood and Bismark couldnt have made a smokescreen as good as the one I had coming out the chimney. ran in cooker off and relax, air adjuster out?
Tis then I see a bit of combustion still going on in the burner via the sight glass, pull the pec out (dont want that sooting up🙂 ). So beeding a naive bunny I lift off the hot plate, now v hot and trot that outside onto the grass, sooty but it will brush off. Back to the rayburn and ........oh my fecking fanny flames leaping out the hole, dont panic Mr Mannering, grab my old towel stuff it in and the flames will die, well they should have, towell burns well, should have wet it, so to the van, towel, tap, wet towel, in hole and breathe gently. Hello Mr home owner, tis nought to worry, duff nozzle, overfuelled, will burn off soon, la la la la la.
So get cleaning, sort out a bit of soot and all back together and refire the cooker, not a good move, considering it was all my fault, not tightening the new nozzle properly, when coffee was offered earlier. So nozzle, loose, 10 bar, 10 minutes firing is actually more kero than I thought, and that little flame, hot vapour means instead of bbbzzzzzzzzzzzzz click whoop noise, I got bbbzzzzzzzzzzzz click oh what the feck was that going off noise. too late to worry, not making that mistake again, so lets let all that kero burn off with the burner on , might go away quicker.
So into the garden to enjoy another coffee and check to see if the flue is still on the roof, it was, roof was a bit speckly, my white van had a black speckly look to it, the washing line was, well I'm glad to say the lady of the house was very understanding as she put it all in the washing machine 🙁
Still when I turned off the cooker side, at least it went out this time, off hotplate, no soot left in that little flue now, coz we all know where that went, ceramics were a lickle orange in one corner, but hey, she has sold the house and is moving next week, just needed a bit of paper to say the rayburn was serviced. both sides giving 11% co2 and all wel, invoice, run away, twas only an extra 3 hours to sort out a 5 second cock up, and for some godforsaken reason they paid me.
only issue were the other winging custards wondering where I was, no signal!, so got home tonight at 7, knackered, oily, smelly and vowing never to forget to check that nozzle isnt on tight again. Note to self again, dont turn on overhead extractor fan if rayburn belching black flames in future, tends to block filter very quickly, didnt own upto that one, too ****ed off at that stage.
I would have provided pics, but the Corporal Jones effect was in full bore mode when best pictures were available to be taken.
