I'm having my bathroom refurbished soon. I'd appreciate any recommendations in terms of the best materials/brands for sanitaryware (eg current bath panel is cheap looking plastic and falling off) and the more effective and durable methods for keeping water from getting where it shouldn't (eg current problem with rotting bath sealant). The room also badly needs its ventilation improved, but I don't think an extractor fan will be enough to solve it.

I'm afraid we all have our favourites regarding sanitaryware etc.

I suggest that you get a couple of plumbers in to have a look at what you want and ask for their views. I'm sure there must be a couple of guys from your area on here would help you out.

A lot of it is about personal preference, but you need to bare in mind that you do get what you pay for!! I'm sure your local plumber can help.

Find your local independent plumbers merchant, and ask for an Eastbrook catalogue.

Its a good range, not the cheapest, but nothing ridiculous. In particular, they do an outstanding range of Carronite baths, as well as pottery, taps, showers, towel rails etc.

Hiya RubyRed

You have arrived at the best place on the internet for advice - we all give our time freely
and enjoy what we do.

Your bathroom refurb ? - it all really depends what you want and what your budget is
my advice is really quite simple based on many years experience of normal and high end
installations.

It is really a horses for courses advice
1. If you want a budget bathroom installation - keeping all the stuff in the same place
then get a plumber who has a tiler friend - most of the gear is good I wont even name makers
thats up to your plumber
2. Luxury high end installation - you will be best to go to your local bathroom installer
ask to go and see or get some phone numbers of their customers that you can call

Get - 'Fixed price quotation' never an estimate from who ever you engage

Getting a fixed price quote will be more expensive. In the last 9 years I have only done one quote, I added on 200 just to make sure I was covered. Job went well so cust got a cheaper than quoted job.

No problems with an estimate.
